Plant in ground or trash bin ?

Okay here's what you can do get some heavy duty black garbage bags then go to your desired planting area dig a hole template big enough so you can put the bags into the template then put holes into the bottom the bag then you can line template with the bag until its secure then begin to put your growing medium into the bag then just transplant what I like about this method is that you can control the environment of your plants system such as size of root system,nutrients and drainage this will also keep the plant's roots cooler as they will be in placed in the bags in the ground instead of pots which takes a lot more space vs direct planting which is planting into the already natural soil the things I prefer about this method is that your roots can grow more freely,less exposure to your crop and the microbes,beneficial bacteria and the nutrients that are already in the soil but sometimes the soil can have bad drainage and it doesn't give you total control of the environment that the plants system is growing in. Chose your own method these are just recommendations from me experiment and see what you like

Just dig a hole (the bigger the better) and put your plant in it. Simple

Holes will yield much more and will be easier to care for as they wont dry out as quickly

Well i think ima just go with planting one in the trash bin and another one in the method that thespidermite mentioned ..i think that will be the best ..catmando .. thats very true about pots but im alwayz around my plants there just a couple steps away so keeping them well maintaned aint the problem wit me im alwayz around to water ..but good point anywayz

I think the strongest argument against a buried bin or bag is aeration. If you just plant into the hole, aeration is necessarily better than if all you have is surface and drain holes. My opinion. cn

The roots usually go down about two feet then spread outwards. So between digging a hole or filling a trash can, I'd go with digging a hole. However, digging is a lot of work. If you have a hammer and some nails, go to Home Depot and build a basic 3'x3' raised bed. The people at Home Depot will even measure and cut the wood for you. Then fill it with potting soil. Over here on the west coast I can pick up a 3.5 cu ft bag of Kellogg Patio Plus for $4. Figure $20-$25 in soil should be enough to fill the raised bed. You don't have to do any digging and you won't need to fertilize for a few months, if at all. I have a 7ft Sativa growing in my raised bed right now (Hawaiian Snow by Green House seeds) and it's significantly taller then the ones I have directly in the ground.

You don't need to spend money on Fox Farm or Roots Organic. You just want good potting soil that has lots of organic stuff in it, like compost, that will break down and feed the plants over time. Your local garden centers, like lowes and home depot, should have everything you need to grow monster size plants.

Smart pots are the best!They let your roots grow so much bigger and your plants will not become root bound.

Now that i think about it i think the raised bed idea like what Vindicated mentioned is also a very good idea i think its probably the best ..redman420 i would use smart pots .. but i only have a 5ft maximum hight because of my wall and if i would use one i would have to bury it because of hight reasons..i have a hole dug up already i did it yesterday its 2ft wide and 3ft deep ...i have only done one tho i think ima just open it to 3x3 and do the raised bed and fill it up with the soil that vindicated mentioned..hes right i have seen that dirt hes talking about at the home depot .i think ima just go get a couple of thoose bags of dirt ...as a matter of fact right now in like an hour or two and ima see what else to do with my other sour d ..

go in the ground. I have done both ways with better results in the ground. The difference was 1.5lbs per plant in the bag in the ground I also used trash can plastic of course and put it in the ground. And straight in the ground I got 2.25 lbs per plant. Now the only thing to consider is if this is something you can check on daily or if you can only go once in a while. I do not put my plants in the ground in my off property spots because they require a whole lot of water as they dry out faster. So you figure out how often you want to visit your spots. I would use the dirt in the contractor bag method because its less watering but you have to hike in all those bails and thats not easy. . Happy Growing
