Hello guys and girls, I'm new here and also new to the world of growing. I've been a smoker for a while now and never really needed to grow as I've always been fairly well looked after. Good amounts for good prices(well, in the UK anyway) etc, anyway. I'm looking for some recommendations as to what I should go for as a first grow.

I know next to nothing on seed companies and the stable strains but have been told that I should really pay attention to these things, so if anyone could recommend any strains or companies to buy from, that would be great!

This will be for next year though, as the summer we've had in the UK this year has been pretty woeful. Temperatures have been dismal and the weather its self has been more wind and rain than anything else(we were apparently expecting a drought ).

Also, I am slightly layman in terms of abbreviations and certain terms, so please be gentle.

    Thanks!

P.S, if this can be found elsewhere on the forums, please direct me to said place and apologies in advance.

    Edit:
The companies I am currently looking at is Dinafem, G13, Greenhouse seeds, Barney's Farm and DNA Genetics.

Unfortunately, what you ask is quite a task! There are answers to your questions throughout this site as well as several others. It tkes a lot of time to sift through it all. Also, you must take everything with "a grain of salt" because there are things that work well for one person that are disasterous for others. Every grower on here had to find their own methods of success; trial and error if you will. But a lot can be avoided by doing the research here. Just look up your questions in the search feature, odds are, you'll find many answers there. Many grow journals will answer questions before you even think of them to ask. If you don't find what you seek at first, people will rally to your questions sooner than later. Great bunch of people here. Remember this, EVERYONE had to start with their first grow. Each successive grow makes us better. We have all made mistakes (Lord knows I have my share and more) but people here will tel about this too. Sometimes learning what NOT to do is more valuable than what to do... One thing I recommend is to start with soil and move on from there (Hydroponics) if you decide to expand. I would also experiment with some bag seed (free) before I started worrying about strains. Even the best, most potent strain will not produce if you do not provide the plant with her essential environmental factors such as light, temperature, nutrients, protection from bugs and pathogens and etc., etc., etc.... etc.
You gotta' cough to get off God Bless us, every one of us. God blessed us with Marijuana so please Him & smoke it lots. Sandwich (battery is 2 compare size) is the result of my (typical) munchies ...

Thanks for the reply and I don't intend to expand with hydro, I don't have nearly the amount of money needed to buy all the equipment and I would prefer to do it outdoors in a greenhouse in the back garden or something.
The reason I asked about the companies to buy from is because a friend of mine said if I ever buy Dutch Passion seeds, he'll drop me off a bridge, because apparently he's had and seen nothing but problems with their seeds, including their flagship seed Blueberry(his words not mine lol). Apparently they're really prone to hermaphrodite.

Attitude seeds has a really good promo on at the minute, where if you buy a 10 pack from Dinafem, you get 8 free Blue Widow, so naturally, as you've said I would use the freebies to start off.

Thanks for the help though, I shall do some searching on the forums!

I would not trust GHS or Barneys. From what I've seen here, they're every bit as sketch as Dutch Passion.
I would trust Sannies, Mr. Nice and Sensi. cn

You know, it almost goes without saying that, if someone has a good experience, someone else will have a bad one from that same source. Kind of like one guy likes Chevy and his buddy has had nothing but bad luck with them. I have had bad experiences with the Cali Connection seeds. I got 39 Hermies from 40 seeds (10 X 4 strains) and this split amongst three experienced growers (so not one of us stressed them into Hermie land). You take a risk whenever you buy something online especially if it is overseas. Your best bet would be to find a friend local to get some seeds from, but then again, you probably want to try your luck out with something you want anyway. I have heard good things about TGA SubKool but cannot attest from personal experience.
One thing to consider is to buy Feminized seeds. At least you won't spend a lot of time energy and money only to find out you've been propagating male plants! Expect (if you're very lucky) to get a 50/50 ratio when buying "regular" seeds (they end up costing more per female) thus my vote for Feminized. Once you get a few strains, that you like established, cloning would be the way to go (this is what I use).
Again, hope this helps; doesn't really answer your want for a reputable source. Go to the High Times website, they have lots of seed bank advertisers. They don't endorse either. Everyone is afraid to give endorsements because surely, someone is gonna' be disappointed no matter. Figure that if a business has been around a long time, they are probably a better source to try over some company just starting out.
Best of success to you; I hope you find your answer here (or elsewhere) and don't forget to keep coming back here, post your grow either success or failure, it is all important to everyone who's interested. A grow journal from start to harvest would be interesting. I know that many people share your question because of the scarcity of available seeds here in the USA.
    Again, hope this helps...

I would go with bagseed for a first grow. That way you can be introduced to the different sexes and types of cannabis without risking too much investment.

Thanks for the help guys, really appreciated.

For those who are saying go local to buy seeds, unfortunately, the only guy that I know who used to sell seeds here died recently, so I pretty much have to order online.

Personally, when it comes to which seeds to buy, I'd rather buy a strain I know, something like white widow, white rhino, cheese, common diesel and common kush strains. I am open to new strains though, assuming the majority agree that it's a good place to start.

Oh and also, this has been a question I've wanted to ask. The Doggies Nuts, why are they so expensive?
