quick outdoor potting question

This is my 1st real outdoor grow. I have some pots outdoors. Plants are doing great. Someone told me that my pots will get to hot and harm the plants. Is this true? How do I protect against this? He suggested putting some kind of insulation around the pot. Thoughts?

I recommend using a 3-6'' layer of mulch on the soil surface. I've also heard of people having luck using cardboard to shield the outside of the containers. Any light colored, breathable, durable material to keep your pots out of direct sunlight will keep your root zone cooled, moist and full of heathy roots.
