    Default My First Grow

Hi. I'm new, if you hadn't noticed. I'm planning on growing for the first time and wanted a few pointers and guidance to get me through this, so I joined this forum. I've read just about every outdoor grow guide I can find, but feedback would be great! I've purchased some seeds which should be here in a few days.

I tried selecting strains that would be ready before the corn harvest season (mid October- early November) to avoid detection. I wanted to try a variety so I got some autoflowers and a mix of sativas/indicas. I probably won't try to grow the free seeds with harvest dates after early October.

    Growing Location
    40-41 degrees latitude
    last average frost: May 5th
    first average frost: October 15
    hot, humid summers; variable rain
south side of small creek bed (has never flooded) on edge of corn field
sandy/silt loam soil, very little clay

    Germination
I'll first be soaking seeds for 24 hours, then planting indoors in Solo cup. I'll be moving outdoors after 2ish weeks or after planting/spraying of corn in done.
When do they need light? Should they be grown in same soil as outdoors or can I use straight Promix potting soil from Wal-Mart?

    Planting
Digging out 2' X 2' X 1.5' hole, adding back in half the soil that was removed and mixing with...

    Tentative Soil Mix [per plant]
    50% local soil [3.0ft3]
15% aged horse poo composit [0.9ft3]
    15% Earth Worm Castings [0.9ft3]
    10% Vermiculite [0.6ft3]
    10% Perlite [0.6ft3]

Does this need time to set? Anything else I should definitely add?

    Vegetative fertilizers: none, just watering?
Flowering fertilizers: some form of P and K, perhaps?

I have to walk about a mile to the grow site, so I want to keep weight (and cost) in additives/nutrients to a minimum. The water is going to be supplied from the creek. I'm also restricting nutrients to things I can readily find at superstores (Wal- Mart, Lowes). Since this is a rural area, we don't have specialized garden center stores. The soil is very rich and fertile already so I don't think I'll have much problem growing a native weed. I'll be buying some litmus strips to double check the pH and will add lime as needed.

Thanks for any feedback! I'll try to keep this updated as I progress.
P.S. Hope this wasn't too long for a first post.

Sounds like you got a plan.
Mine always change, but I'm a bit flighty.

Good luck and do what feels right for you.

If your horse manure is at least 1 yr old and/or has broken down to mostly soil you should be fine with the 50% local mix. If your manure is still fresh ie: has natural wet cakes, it may be too hot and burn ur babies.

go light on nutes, 1 mi. is a long walk to correct that you over fert'd and need to flush/babysit

The soil is very rich and fertile already so I don't think I'll have much problem growing a native weed. I'll be buying some litmus strips to double check the pH and will add lime as needed.

Again go easy on the nutes, but keep in mind if your close to or in/on the edge of a farm feild the crops may/may not have been steadily using up the natural nutes from the farm field. You may need some P-K added, but remembr its called "weed" for a reason....dont over-think your guerilla grow. From what you mentioned above, Ill bet your PH is going to be real close ...test it and see.

Thanks for any feedback! I'll try to keep this updated as I progress.
