Scoot is the answer! You can buy it at TSC stores around Ontario. Simply mix with water and spray it on a day b4 you put them out. It sticks to all veg. growth but by the time bud season is around you can't find a trace of it. Never lost a plant to an animal since i started using it....repells,deer,coons,rabbits,mice,and more. Comes in a white and brown container>>>gd luck!
[QUOTE=otheryoda;5442163]I have used fishing line made into a net/fence before. They don't like it and its almost invisable.
The only other option would be to dig a large ditch fill it with spikes or alligators whatever is handy. Cover it with brush. Instand deer cobobs or food for alligators.[/QUOTE
if only we could just put a moat around the whole thing or even just grow it in plain site and not have to worry about silly things like the law and people who want to steal your crops.
Irish Spring soap. Mothballs - Strong manmade scents, barsoap and mothaballs take a while to dissolve, so they are my favorite option. I've tried hair and urine, and I've seen hoofprints right where they were. Older plants - Herbivorous animals mostly search for young, supple plants. Most of my problem with deer is that they step on my shit, and that's kind of hard to avoid, but they mostly stay clear of the afore mentioned things.

I havent read this whole thread so sorry in advance if this has already been said...
Deer are a problem in my veggie garden eating mainly my beans and peas. So ive done a lot of research on the web and in books and finally found the one way i know of that works 100% of the time. I have tested and used this simple method in my garden and on my girls for 5 years now and i wont use anything else.
What you do is mix 6 beaten eggs with 1 gallon of water and spray on your plants with a hand held sprayer. Thats it! the deer dont like the eggs for some reason and im not sure why. I only do this before the plants get fruit on them tho. I will try to find the website i got that off of and post a link later if anyone wants it, but i swear by this method. hope this helps.
EDIT: Reapply every 1-2 weeks or after a rain.
Roll the windows up when you get in the car, and I'ma light one up. Hit the gas station go and buy a cigar and a philly blunt.
the problem i have seen with sprays is they need to be reapplied too often, morning dew can soak plants..so 2 morning dews and the spray is almost non existant..i like the irish spring answer..just makes sure you don't put the soap by the plants and use as more of a perimeter defense..soap attracts mice and rats(the fat) which can chew stalks. best advice i read was to put them out when they are larger and stand less of a chance to be stepped on..if ya put out early and your ladies are flourishing while most native plants are only beginning then animals will seek them out, give the native plants time to grow and put your girls out in june..the sun is very weak in may anyway and temps still get cold at night..good luck. i have never tried the fishing line but i will..just not sure deer wont walk right through some 20 lb test.
I grew up on a actual farm... we have alot of land... raise all the farm animals and grow our own food.. thats the only way we could eat.. true story...
so what we would do to make sure we had food in winter.. we would can ALOT AND I MEAN ALOT of beans/tomatoes/peas puttin corn up in the freezer etc. etc.... what we would do that would work everytime is.. there was 8 of us.. every person had one hog.. it takes one #1 hog per person to feed them the whole year. we would raise around 10 hogs just to be safe... in november.. hog killing time.. we would take 5 gallon buckets.. and when we stuck the hogs to let the blood drain out them.. we would catch it in 5 gallon buckets/50 gallon drums... we would feeze it... and then when we planted the garden.. we would put it in sprayers mix it with water.. and spray it completely around the garden.. thick thick... not just a little.. but we would put alot of blood down... then we would put a 5 gallon bucket at each end of the garden in the corners.. when ever the guys had to pea.. we would walk outside.. piss in the buckets.. we NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER had deer in the gardens.. we tried the hair thing.. didn't work for us.. not sayin it doesn't work.. but the thing is. harid looses its smell after awhile and we had dogs in the yard... and the deer would still come up in the yard to eat out the garden.... so that throws that idea out.. idk about the soap.. but all i know us pissing in 5 gal buckets and putting blood around helped alot
where to get blood:
go to a small butcher shop.. tell him "yea i need the blood for my garden to keep the deer out etc etc" or if you deer hunt you can use that blood as well...
where to get the piss:
your penis!! or your boyfriend/someone elses.. or if your a girl and like most girls i know and you don't care piss in the bucket lol.
hope this helps.. take care
I pour a barrier of gasoline about 4ft from my plants
after that the only thing i have to worry about are insects
