Half of a 3 liter bottle as mini greenhouse?

Hi. I just had a quick question.

Has anyone ever thought to use a 3 liter bottle with the top cut off ( With machete ) and turned upside down, maybe slightly buried as a small version of a greenhouse while the plant is young, so that animals can't eat them?

If so, how did it work out?

I have several deer, squirrels, and the like around my grow area, and its still a little cold here. Im thinking that when the plant gets about 10 inches, the deer wont bother with it as much, and the bottle will keep some heat in until it warms up. is there a better way?

EDIT: Also, how does a large ( 25 gallons ) clear container turned upside down over plants work? I have about 4 of them in my garage.

Be very careful, with no place for air to escape, the sun will heat the air in there so quick it will completely cook your plant to a crisp within an hour.

With a couple air holes the same thing would happen, but youll have sometime to save it.

IMO, Use the bottle as a humidity dome before your seeds sprout but never put it over your growing seedlings.

I have a 2-liter over a seedling indoors right now.

You can make a mini greenhouse out of pvc and clear heavy plastic (inthe rolls) . For instance, make asquare with the pvc and cut and tpe the plastic around. Then cut out a door to vent during day and close at night . Now you have a portable greenhouse you can move ( if you plant in pots) with the sun. Just a Thought. Good Luck.

you must have been pretty stoned when you thought of this. anyways not worth it in my view. your better off just putting some chicken wire aroung it or growing your plant in a dog cage.

True but a dog cage won't help with the cold weather. Look up home made greenhouse's. Maybe not worth it for you, but it might for him.

true that. well in that case i would just say make sure you cut holes in it so it doesnt suffocate.
