Default growing out doors in new york
Ok so im from new york and ive bein thinking about growing. Indoor seems very complicated and expensive. I was wondering around what time in the year i should start to grow. I obviously cant do this in the winter so i was wondering when i should start. Right after cold weather stops? Or should i wait to a specific month? please help me.

after any chance of frost. Im sure if your in NY there is plenty of that. it fucks with your plant.

Make sure it gets at least 5 hours of direct sunlight

go outside sometime soon pic a spot where you are sure no one in there right mind would go or in some woods behind your house and cut some trees down people will think its for fire wood this will open up the sky and give some good direct sunlight make sure that you do not tell anyone about it because they will get stolen

you could but as you know the weather up here is kind of unpredictable so even in april there is a chance of us getting a small frost id say the last week in april
if your thinking about the first week in april you might be able to survive but the weather may be so cold in your area and the wind is a bitch
what you can do is start some seedlings 2nd or 3rd week in april keep them by a window tell your parents that you are growing tomatos and by the 4th week you will be a couple weeks ahead of the game and they wont look like weed yet so your safe from identification from parents
hope this helps

Go to the USDA website and determine which plant hardiness zone you are in on the map. New York has a large variety of zones. Once you determine your zone, you can learn the last average frost date for that zone. Put your girls out after that date.

For example, I live in Zone 8. Last average frost date for my area is March 15. I wouldn't place any plant out before that.

Your other option could be done now. You could go ahead and prepare your ground and plant your seeds now. They will winter over and come up when nature determines the best date.

I live in PA and I can usually plant by early April. I don't think NY should be too much different.
