edit: i'm using ffof as is (no extra perlite) and the entire 6pc line up if that helps.
slightly off center, if you use the star spraying types, go just off center (aim the two jets around the stem so they're not blocked)

i'm going to try a different kind of dripper soon, called a basket dripper. i have no idea how those work....

Update:
Just for the people that are visiting this thread I want to update what I am using for my multiple plants.
Ace hardware (pretty much any hardware store really) has these pump sprayers in stock. They make it sooooo much easier to feed/water my plants.
Here is the two gallon model for like $16, they also have larger models and a smaller one if anyone is interested.
