Hey there everyone,
So I have some plants that I started about 10 weeks ago indoors and moved outdoors after about 4 weeks. So they are now almost 2.5 months old and are almost 5 feet tall. SO heres my dillema, it seems like that have reached full maturity and I dont think they can get any bigger in the 6 gallon containers that I have. Its still early July and the natural 12/12 cycle isnt coming till September. So whats going to happen in the next two months? There are some signs of pre-flowers but i think thats just cos it has been raining for like 2 weeks straight and they prob thought it was fall. But its back to being 80 degrees now. Are they going to get rootbound? Do I have anything to worry about or should I just sit and wait for them to flower? |

12/12 is a purely indoor technique and doesn't have fuck-all to do with outdoor growing.
They will start to flower in about a months time. They are pre-flowering because they have reached sexual maturity, not because it is raining. Obviously the best thing you can do is get them in the ground or in 10gal+ pots. Otherwise, I'd be concerned that they will continue to grow fine, but the flowers won't be as big as they could be because of the plant being rootbound, like you said, and not being able to take in enough nutrients. Basically, get them in the ground dude! Good job so far and good luck for the rest of the season.

As the person underneath you said, the photoperiod still has everything to do with when they flower. However, in the US, 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark comes in late September (26th?). That's about two months after they start flowering.

Probably the reason that the actuall 12/12 photoperiod is so late is because outdoors the light dosent just come on and off. it takes about an hour each time, which accounts for about 2 hours every day of "daylight" on the charts that the weather stations display.

12/12 is used indoors as a harsh contrast to 18/6 to 'snap' the plants into flowering so you don't have to gradually decrease the photoperiod as in nature. Imagine if you had to change your timer by a minute or two every day. It doesn't have anything to do with the sunrise/sunset, it is just an indoor growing technique.
