oh my god you guys, i hear one person saying they will start flowering in october when daylight is 12-12???? then we got people claiming it takes 8-9 months to finish strains??? another claim that 9-10 week flowering period has anything to do with outdoor growing????

first of all, if your growing in anything but a tropical or subtropical region(florida or cali) you will want a strain that starts flowering in late july through august, which includes most indica dominant strains.

second, outdoors a plant flowers much earlier than 12-12, that is a reference to indoor growing, and indoor growing is possible at 13 or 14 hours light and 11 ten hours dark, but they wont ripen till the hours shorten significantly to signify to the plant that winter is near. indoor growers use 12-12 because it is a perfect median that alows a plant to ripen fully but allows enough light for maximum bud production.

An outdoor grown plant will start flowering at 15-14 hours daylight (depending on strain of course, many pure sativas need 12/12 because of evolution to the proximity of the equator) but most start flowering in august when the light is between 15 and 13 hours depending on how far north of the equator you live.

choose an indica heavy strain or hope you strain has enough indica or ruderalis(hopefully not) genes to flower on time, the worst that could happen is it could flower late and you end up with premature bud, it wont be as strong by a long shot but free weed is free weed ya know?

And yes most female plants can be stressed into hermi regardless to genetics. there are a few "good plants" that wont, those are highly saught after for use in feminized seed cultivation and hundreds if not thousands of plants are stressed at one time to find the very few who are unwilling to produce male flowers from stress, those are induced with gibberelic acid. a genetic hermi will express male flowers through most of it's children and clones, and is for the most part uselless unless you like seedy underdeveloped stem filled buds. strong genetics arent easy to find but once you do stick with them.

when you see 8-9 weeks flower time, that is the time from when it starts budding to when it is ripe under a 12-12 indoor scedule, budding may be longer or shorter by a little bit depending on your distance from the equator but mainly the most important factor is when you strain will decide to start that 8-9 week flower period, some could start in july and be done mid september, some could start september and finish november, and both be 8-9 week strains.

don't get me started on seed companys finish times and yeilds, never pay too much attention to them because for some reason almost every single company grossly exaggerates how fast they will finish, some less reputable companys descriptions are complete falsifications as to the yeild and finish times.

If you can't tell by this needlessly long winded post, im drunk and its almost 4 am, but the moral of the story is twofold,

1. only pay attention to finish times that state the MONTH it finishes, not the amount of weeks flowering, this means nothing outdoors, and be wary of the month as well because companys exaggerate, google strain reviews and look for somone who grew it outdoors to find there finish time, should coincide with yours ok

2. Beaner loves beer!!!!!!!!!!only drink miller light or your plants will never bud.....

too good to mention that tx is subtropical? we have rain seasons etc where as cali only has earthquake season. sorry for the rant i just felt left out.

well by florida to cali i meant many parts of most southern states, such as my home state, arizona, much of it is a desert, but you will find waterfalls and pineforests in many areas, as im sure can be said about texas,(only been through the panhandle, and all i saw and smelled was miles upon miles of beef in pens.

western part of the state is like az. desert. central tx around san antonio, austin around there is hill country it also stretches into west tx. but east from dallas to corpus is nice and green

corpus christi. a city along the gulf a few hrs from mexico. but yea. i wasnt being serious in that post. should of put an lol in there some place.

Basically, what i have gathered from this thread is that outdoors mother nature basicallly takes care of the plants. Guiding them to grow and flower. So im growing my plants inside which are a three strain, indica x colombina x skunk, which i will move outside in a few weeks when it gets really nice and warm out.

although I'm into my own first grow, I doubt you'll be able to get it go flower by July, considering that daylight doesn't start getting shorter 'till june 21 (right?) so, I'm guess that they'll start flowering late july, early august

atleast, that's what I'm expecting.

i may be wrong, just my input.
