I'm looking to get some seeds for my first outdoor grow and I have a couple questions.

What seed/strain would you recommend for a total beginner outdoor grower?
And, how many seeds should I get if I want to get a decent crop?

Early Misty is fairly easy to grow and some good bud too!

10 seeds should give you a decent crop by the time harvest comes... say you get 5 or 6 good females out of it, depending how you grow them you can get pounds off of them.

Thanks guys. Also, how far apart should i plant the seeds? I've heard everything from 3 inches to 3 feet apart. I don't know whats best.

If youre planting them outside inground then plant at least 8 feet away from eachother. That distance allows roots to spread out and allows space inbetween plants for more sunlight

i'd go toward 3 ft. although i agree with purple in general that more room is better, i suspect that there is a cut off point that MAY even be strain specific. reason i say this is i've personally put individuals alone (over a dozen feet from others) and when compared to those in groups about 3ft. apart they don't thrive as well.. again, this isn't something i've nailed down - just an observation i'm passing along to you.

Alright. Cool. I've got a spot picked out by a stream but its not extremely big, so I'll go with about 3 feet apart. I've only got 4 or 5 seeds anyway.

Another Q: I've got my seeds germinating (they should be done in 2 days.) I'm in a pickle though. I don't know if I should go straight into the ground with the germ. seeds or into a small pot for a few weeks and then transplant at my location. Here's the catch: parents. And I don't think I have an adequate light source to grow them indoors for weeks.

So, heres what I was thinking. Tell me if this is a good idea or bad. I could plant my seeds in small pots/cups and let them get light on the roof undetected. Would putting them on the roof give too much light? Not enough? How often to water the babies? OR, just go straight into the ground?

yea cups on the roof would last about a min. the wind would blow them off and if it didn't the roof gets so hot it would fry them. I would try placing them somewhere like behind the garage or anywhere around the outside of the house that wont get seen. let them grow around 5 inches but make sure they don't get over grown by weeds when they're that little.

Cool. I think I could pull that off. I'll just plant my seedlings in a small cup or plastic pot and put that in the sun somewhere discreet. I just don't know if there are enough light hours outside in a day for the babies...
