Insect pictures - pests

Scale Insects and Mealybugs - GreenMethods.com

The worst part of this whole ordeal is I stretched my plants for maximum growth! Normally in HAwaii, we now have four growing seasons if we want! I decided I want some size to my plants. As I'd be using some of my plants to pay my bills. So you can imagine how I felt when I saw these little pest the other day. Upon closer inspection I have 8 plants for sure that are infested with either "Mealybugs", or "Scales"!?!?!

My leg feels better so I'm out to take a few pics if possible!? It's been raining pretty hard all night. So I gotta go check on the mold too.

Any of you can suggest seed banks that will send to the USA? I running terribly low on seeds!
Yup those are exactly the bugs. Heres a pic of the ones I had -

I didn't use the whole bottle of my Safer brand "Insect Killing Soap". The bottle says to spray until there is runoff from the area you are spraying.

The insect Soap is biodegradable and is dried off the plants within a day usually. I just sprayed those little fuckers with what I felt was enough to kill them and repeated the spray regimen till I believed I had got them all. I only had one plant that was fairly good size and sprayed it about 3-4 times over a week.

Just gotta make sure you dont spray mid-day when the sun is hot. I just sprayed before it was dark or early morning when there wasn't as strong sun and the soap had time to evaporate.

Hope this helps.

PS: Im intrigued that you say four seasons. From what Ive done I could only pull off a short and long season harvest year round. Any suggestions of when to put the babies out for this Maui boy over here?

Howzit!

Brah, what side of Maui are you growing on? I actually grew up on Maui! I was there when there was only one street light on the entire island...over in Wailuku. But I grew up in Lahaina-Kahana side of the island. I actually had a couple of brothers from Kula that taught me how to grow back in 1974. Back then we use to charge the west Maui side mountains to grow. But I was ripped off by 'Pig Hunters', and twice by "Green Harvest"! Even did several crops in the old Kaanapali cane fields. Back when they had a tiny airstrip(Green HArvest unable to use air space in and around airports) there. But between G.H. & rip offs, I got tired! Tired of growing, just to have some asshole[s] take it away from you! So I took a break! Over twenty two years break to be exact! But i'm back now!
I feel living on the Big Island offers me the best chance to pull off some incredible crops. There is just so much jungle there. I have grown crops on Oahu and Maui in the past. By far and away Puna offers me the best possibility to pull off a killer crop(I got many bills). Whether it be several 90 day wonder crops, or a long season. I feel god about farming once again! Plus I have my medical cannabis license too! Are you aware of how big Puna is my friend? Puna is slightly bigger than the island of Oahu, and 80% of that is jungle!
I have some acreage and part of it has a jungle canopy. I think that is where the majority of my "Mealy Monsters", have originated out of. I mean these little bastards don't fly do they? How the hell do they make the journey from the ground up six and a half feet to the top of my kolas burrowed deep inside? So because I now have my medical card. I will keep my best plants behind my house! But I just gotta keep up on these mealy bugs for the time being, I was gonna use part of this for my mortgage, car payments, etc.,etc...

Man, some days I really miss Maui, then I think about how Lahaina use to be. I was there when it was developed, and it slowly turned my stomach!! In Puna I feel like I have my 1970 Maui again!

I'm over here on the Eastside of Maui. I was thinking about starting a new grow next year starting before or around May. I'm looking for mold resistant plants because im gonna try a plot out towards Hana in the Na'hiku region(rains a shitload in Na'hiku). Got any strain recommendations?

I have to worry about Pig Hunters mostly. I have heard stories about my friends crops being ripped off or destroyed by pig hunters.

Where would you suggest a crop next year? Elevation and region wise on any part of Haleakala(Eastside)?

I don't think those mealy bugs fly but they sure as hell can jump fucking far. I was spraying them on my plant and they would jump off clear to the ground about 2 ft away from the plant. Thats the only way I can think of. I watched them on the plant I treated and noticed they would come back and chill under the rim of the bucket and I would catch them while spraying.

Hope the crop turns out fine. Hopefully the spraying regimen works for you and your crop comes out realy great.

Sad to see the islands developed. Hope Maui stays at least the way it is now for years to come.

Keep Country, Country!!

brah, the pig hunters can be a real problem! The way I dealt with it was to beat them at their own game. I became a part time Pig Hunter! I bought myself a crossbow from Hasegawa's General Store in Hana. Spent plenty of time in the mountains, mostly relaxing, sleeping, etc.,etc. Only spent perhaps 10% of my pig hunting time actually hunting. I used it as an opportunity to meet local pig hunters in my area, and it worked!!! Got to the point where we were on first name basis too! Then when the time is right I'd say, " oh by the way, if you come into any plants above Honokawai watershed...they belong to me. I'd appreciate it if you leave them alone? I got bills to pay, I'd say. I guess what I'm trying to say is you're better off making friends with them, and not enemies! In the end you might need to use your new friends for one thing or another.

Why not try to grow on the Ula Palakua Ranch? Beautiful area, and fairly dry most of the time!

Craca102, listen, about four seasons in one year. All you need to know is that your plants need only three weeks in a vegetative state. After that, you can determine it's sex at that point. Then you can force them into flowering thru controlling the environment . You can create a field of dreams this way, and not be discovered either! Why? Because you buds won't be taller than 12 inches!!! Very, very easy to hide them amongst the weeds and natural growth in your area.

more damage pics. For some of you, it may appear minimal at best. But these bastards are all over my plants!!!! They suck the plant dry too, hence the browning where they bite & suck..

But even with all these headaches I've encountered. I will always remain an outdoor grower!!!!

Yeh the browning looks about right. The inside of the top cola of the plant that I had infested was all brown and dying away. The buds weren't as tight as the top of the cola they didn't get too before I sprayed them.

I sucks because the outside of the bud looks great then you peak inside and BAM!! theres an infestation going on, supa shitty.

You get most of the bugs off your buds? Hows the spraying going?

Ula Palakua Ranch is quite a good idea. Might look into it. Got take a bush hike one day and find some spots.

So PunaBud, your saying that if I allow them to veg for three weeks and then determine the sex that I can force flower them, say by altering the light cycle to 12/12?
Gonna send ya a PM so I can further understand the info your telling me.

Kaleihala76 - No I have'nt used molasses before but my girl is two weeks into flowering and I might start giving her 1 tbsp per gallon in the coming weeks to see what happens. Got some left over molasses in the cupboard and might as well try it if I got it.
