Default freeze damage
has anyone ever had early spring freeze damage to new growth tips and cola early in flowering?

what happened, did it die back and regrow one main top or did it create multiple tops?

Hi 7x,
I have never endured a spring frost or freeze, but I have ridden out a few autumn frosts with little damage to my buds.
My understanding is that spring freeze damage can be more serious....?
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this?
It is soooo cold in my area that I can't even put containers outside for sun.

Good Luck!

taking advantage of a warm March i went with it... these are the breeder females so it's not a big deal as long as they survive.

i watered one right before putting the plastic over her, the other 3 seemed to have enough moisture in the soil so they went without a watering before the tent - this seems to be where i screwed up.

the one that got water has no damage, the other 3 looked pretty pathetic on the top 3 nodes.

i'm taking the plastic off later today so i'll get a better feel then.

usually if frost kills anything it starts with the lower fan leaves, upper colas will be last, and i have never lost one, i have had snow cover my sprouts with little damage.

out of the three here's what i found last evening.

plant 1 had some tip burn on the top and on some new growth. pulled dead dry stuff off.
plant 2, minor tip burn on the cola, some baby fan leaves dead. pulled very little off.
plant 3, severe burn on the entire crown. pinched off two top nodes and some other dead dry stuff.

basically, it was like some vine ripe sample material.

there was new growth on all three of the freeze victims so they will recover.

moral of the story: watering before you cover in a hard freeze makes a big difference.
