So heres a quick one for you guys.
The other day i had gone to Nelson Ledges in Nelson township, Garrettsville, N.E. OHIO. Its always a great time and i find alot of great people always there. Kinda an old hippie get together with great tunes . But i ran in to this old hippie guy who i found out lives a few miles from me. Awesome. Well we got to talking about growing and whatnot and he brought up the idea of regeneration. Keeping you plants around outdoors year round to keep using the same plant over again year after year. Making it stronger and stronger each year with a larger and larger root mass. This idea intrigued me. From what he says he has a 14 year old plant that still grows and flowers each year, better and better every year.He said the trick to the deal was after your harvest chopping your plant and leaving a bit of stalk "6-8in" in the ground, the proceding to insulate his plant with bails of hay. Then next season he removes them and the plant starts to grow again. This is what he said hes been doing for 14 years with one plant. Im working on gettin a picture, but im skeptical? Does anyone know if this is myth, or true? The idea sounds amazing, but to good to be true. peace

Are you sure he was talking about pot and not... say... roses?
Because as far as I was aware, cannabis is an annual plant: sprout, veg, flower, seed, die. I think he was yanking your chain, my friend.

I'm not sure one can turn an annual into a perennial outdoors. I suppose it's possible, if off-season temps didn't drop below X degrees. Of course, frigid northern temps even sometimes render perennials useless, in that they can only survive so much cold abuse.
Sure seems like something might've gotten to his plant outdoors in 15 years, like bugs, etc.

and I guess one could argue that each subsequent season's re-birth should be stronger physically, or would it just be older . . . like an old man arising from a long, winters' nap.
NOT an attractive prospect, IMO.

We've regenerated plants, but never outside. We had to leave a few leaves hanging on to continue growth, without them the others croaked pretty fast. I dunno, I'm skeptical, without leaves and being buried i'd think it wouldn't work but i've been proven wrong before.

I regenerated a plant that was an indoor grow, and havest. I left one little bud site on the bottom. story short, It sat in my cellar for about two weeks, and I thought, what the hell, and planted it in my garden, and after about two months it finaly started growing. the leaves we extreamly elongated for quite a while, and it was fricken scrawny. it finaly died a horrible death to the slugs. but yes, it can be done, but why waiste the time, when you can clone?
