Default I said "Do you speak my Language?"
He just smiled, and gave me a vegemite sandwich!

Has anyone explored the use of Vegemite or Marmite in growing pot? It's nutritous as all hell, being rich in B vitamins. It's, as i'm sure ya'll know, a by product of beer brewing. Yeast, Hops, Malts, Barley, all sound like it might be a good supplement. I would have NO IDEA as to how to figure out a dosage, I'll leave that to the experts. I just want some feed back as to whether or not it might have beneficial uses.

Thelastpirate... Instead of trying to figure out a dosage to try & risking mold formation in your soil, bioconvert it. The best way to reduce it to it's simplest form - is to feed it to some worms - aka - vermicompost it. I'd spread some on one piece of old moist bread & feed my worms. If they go for it, repeat every few days, until you have a small quanity of worm castings.
.
Then you will have enriched worm castings to feed your plants. I bioconvert things all the time. Left over oatmeal, lettuce, apple peels, bannana peels...etc..
.
Then just use the worm castins as you normally would - either mix them in 10-20 percent when potting or repotting, or top dress 1 inch thick or make a worm castings tea (four heaping tablespoons per gallon of water) & water in weekly.
.
Hope this helps...
The simplest solutions are often the best.

Never thought of that. Not really thinking of using vegemite RIGHT NOW, either. I was just in the grocery store yesterday getting some molasses, and saw some vegemite there. We have an organic/tofu type grocery here, and somethimes if ya want anything thats not blackeyed peas and corn bread ya gotta go there. This IS N. Geowja after all.
I saw the vegemite, got to thinking about why folks use molasses, and figured that maybe someone knew if the ingredients/contents would be beneficial. I would think that its somewhat like the B-12/Hummus blend I saw that someone had posted

OhSo, I tried to PM ya, no joy. How does one go about collecting worm castings? I have a 5 gal bucket that I am tossing all my teabags, eggshells, and coffee grounds into, along with alot of veggie matter (Plant trimmings, a couple of plants that did not make it, etc) and some manure. Should I introduce some worms to the bucket? Let the worms have at it for a while, then use it as a soil amendment? I know a 5 gal bucket aint much, but it's a beginning.

Thelastpirate... Your 5 gallon bucket will be fine. It just needs some very small air / drain holes & needs to be kept out of direct sunlight / heat.
I am going to put two hotlinks here for you to check out. The kid in me, just loves Herman the Worm. The site has solid info. The one after it, addresses just the harvest of castings.

The Adventures of Herman the Worm

Harvesting Worm Castings

Hope this helps... Worms are Fun & Easy - Get Some.....

TheLastPirate... The Bait Shop usually carries two types of worms. Nightcrawlers (larger worms) and Pan or Trout Fish Worms (smaller worms). The later one is better for vermicomposting.
.
Earthworms - aka - Nightcrawlers prefer living in deep burrows in your lawn or garden. The smaller Redworms - aka - Manure worms are happy living under a pile of horse or cow poop, and in shallow ground. They work better in a worm bin, to them it's like moving into the Penthouse. Plus Redworms are more tolerate of temperature changes & crowding conditions.
.
Hope this helps....
