However, I just noticed that my room STINKS of old socks... kind of a wet foot smell. Watered two days ago and the standing water dried up yesterday. Soil is still wet on top, but starting to dry.

The soil is ocean forest. the tea is kelp meal, bat guano, worm castings.....

Does this sound normal???

Just wanna make sure I am not growin' a fungus farm in m' soil

LOL.... I have no idea but I can tell you that I used organic nutes and my room didn't smell like old socks. ICK

Drumsinttown The wet sock smell is most likely coming from the kelp. Both it and Alfalfa meal, have that smell. If your growing area does not have a natural breeze, a small fan can work wonders.

If you don't actually see fungus growing on your soil surface, your good to go. If you do, cover it with a 1/16 of an inch of plain old cornmeal. It will take it out, in a day. Then when next watering / feeding time comes around, scrape it off and throw the cornmeal / dead fungi mix in your compost pile.
