How can I create a successful organic mix with supplies available at either Walmart, Lowes or Home Depot?I live in a small city, w/o any specialties store for many many miles - all the expensive ebay stuff is out the question.
locally I have found the basics ( manure, fish, cotton compost, shroom compost and bone/blood meal) 2nd question... with a good base mix, will blood/bone meal tea be enough for the entire process ( blood for veg / bone for bloom) - I have immediate access to blood/bone thanks for any advise! |

I just vegged using only bone meal and it worked pretty well. I used 2 large tablespoons for gallon of mix. Once a week I used 2 tablespoons of molasses to supplement the potassium. I think you could use bone meal for flowering as well make sure to use molasses as well. My mix is equal parts perlite, peat moss, and mushroom compost, try to get perlte and peat moss that aren't miracle grow. I add 1 large tablespoon of dolomite lime per gallon of mix. Start the seeds in the mix wthout bone meal and transfer after a couple of weeks. I've messed around with the blood meal and that stuff is pretty hot, I've tred a ratio of 1 tablespoon per gallon of mix but have slightly burned my plants with that so I would say 1 teaspoon of blood meal per gallon of mix, but it really isn't necessary. I am also trying out schultz fertilizer for cacti 2-7-7 for flowering and that works well, I found it at home depot.

i usually use a pig manure compost which is very rich and heavy but with about 1/3 perlite it drains good and lasts for the grow you dont need much to get some good buds but experimentation is key you'll find what works

Good looking out... I'm going to try your shroom mix, It sounds simple and effective.
I guess the big difference for me with organic ( or almost organic) is that the soil can almost support a whole grow cycle with light addatives through veg and flower... And give comparrable results to chemical doused plants Without the same risk of burn Any other suggestions? Last edited by im fat; 07-23-2008 at 10:58 AM.. |
