Arrow more nitrogen?
hey guys, got a question about my greenhouse grow....

she's in a mix of my compost, organic compost, chicken shit, peat moss, worm castings, vermiculite and perlite.

i've been feeding her high N vegging guano, alaska fish fert and molasses. now some of the lower leaves are turning yellow. i'm curious if i should boost the amount of fish fert or if it's possible the lower leaves aren't getting enough light? i added some alfalfa meal last feed, but i believe the N is slow releasing. i need to give her more nitrogen but i'm not sure what organic material to use? coffee grounds seem to work wonders on my rhodo's?? she is my only plant and i don't want to beat her up by giving her some heavy nute burn.

i ordered some of willieonthehills super plant tonic, i'm hoping that will add some juice.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

my leaf tips turn white when i have enough nitrogen. lower leaves turning yellow is a sign of needing more nitrogen.

i wouldent have thought so how much chicken shit did you use cause that alone has a highh nitrogen rating of 10-14 with virtually no traces of P K.

Sounds like you're using Mexican bat guano (high N). Anyway, I'd make a bat guano "Cocktail" and add in a little extra Alaskan fish fert. Btween the guano tea and the fish emulsion, you're bound to get enough nitrogen!

Default Yellow is not always bad - check pH first, don't just add N

Phatkix... before you go adding - what is your soil pH ? You may just be suffering from a little lockout vice, not having enough. Check you soil pH with a cheap meter or soil test kit. If it is between 6 & 6.8 pH - then you need some more N. If it is below or above those numbers - the pH needs correcting first.
.
If the pH is OK using the Super Plant Tonic will definately help. It will mine out every last bit of NPK in your soil. Just use a half strength mix of SPT, to start, since this is your only girl. Better to be safe.
.
If your girl is in her 2nd week of flowering, or older - the yellowing of the bottom leaves is completely natural. The plant draws energy from the parts on the bottom half, & focuses all its efforts on flowering (the top half). So, a few yellow or yellowing leaves is not a bad sign.
.
If in flowering, it is still OK to give her N. I have never believed in the no N theory during flowering. Just go light on the N.
.
Hope this helps.....

How accurate are the cheap PH meters sold at like Lowes and Home Depot ect? Mine seem to always be off in their readings. Any tricks to using the cheap ones correctly?

The ones with the red drops are pretty accurate and foolproof...

They are fairly accurate. The key to using them. Wipe them off good after every use. When you push them down into your soil, the soil should be moist (not wet), you have to wait one minute to get the true reading.

thanks for the info! she is still in full veg right now. my ph seems to be a steady 6.8. i've been trying get a little lower by adding a drop or two of apple cider vinigar or lemon juice in my feeding tea to bring it to about 6.5, but she still holds steady at 6.8.

i just received my tonic in the mail today, so i will give it the intial go tomorrow. i am proud to be the first canadian customer of BMO! they are extremely nice to deal with..
