Default Not sure how safe i'd be using this
Before I get people telling me that I can go and pick up a package of litmus paper to test the compost that I have.....it's not that easy, see for one I don't drive, and secondly I don't know of anyone willing to drive me into town just for some measly litmus papers. With that being said, I vaguely remember reading a few chapters in a collection of gardening books my mother had....the overall concensus was this....on average compost should have a ph reading between 6.0-8.0....granted those gardening books were made in the late 80's....so the information I gathered was outdated....but I figured the gardening principle hasn't changed much, if at all.

So to my fellow growers, how high should the ph reading be for compost???

Thank you, comments welcomed.

BW

Litmus paper is useless, you need a ph testing kit from some place that has pool supplies
