Hello peoples! OK, so, as I posted before I got my first plant sexed as a male at this precise moment in time, however, I guess theirs still the possibility that it could be a hermi. Anywho, after posting before about this and mainly getting the advice "Male? Get rid of it!" I kind of feel sorry for my little plant. So I decided to look around, see what the differences are between both the male and female plant and what good can come from a male (other then fertilizing). So I ended up being linked to some other forum and saw this posted -

Although marijuana lore claimed the female to be the more potent, scientists disclaimed this. But there is some truth to both sides. In fine marijuana varieties, male and female leaves average about the same in cannabinoid concentrations. Either a male or a female individual may have the highest concentration in any particular case. The largest variation is in comparing the flowers. Male flowers may be comparable to the females, or they may not even get you high. It seems that the higher the quality of the grass, the better the male flowers will be. In fine type I plants, male flowering clusters usually approach the potency of the female. In low-quality type III varieties females are usually more potent (20 to 30 percent) than the males.

Type II plants are the most variable, with large differences among individual plants. But the trend is for the females to average about 20 percent high in potency of leaves and flowers.




Anyone agree with this? Their seems to be like a pretty firm divide throughout the weed community with about a 70% "throw the male out" and a 30% "Hash it!" (from what ive seen, anyways). What are these 'type I' and 'II' and such? Im trying to grow some Cali Orange, anyone know if thats classed as I, II or III?

Also, the organic forums always boast that organic weed is, in a nut shell, the nuts! So, why is the male still so useless? If the female of the plant can be grown organically to produce a "Tastier, smoother, stronger" smoke, then why cant the male also produce the same? Its sad to throw away a few months work, but at the moment my options for my male plant are quickly running thin before I just decide to take it to some remote place and give him back to mother nature, which could be very interesting considering our lovely weather/climate!

So yea, just a few questions for the more expertise grower! Yes, I am learning the ropes here, so I dont know the ins-and-outs of what im saying, but you know how it goes...

Don't get too confused by what you have read.

FEMALES produce prolific flowers that if grown correctly produce lots of lovely THC loaded resin.
Male flowers and pollen also contain measurable amounts of THC but in far smaller amounts, likely you will only get a few joints.
Male and Female leaves are similar in resin content, both are low.
In a nutshell you will get between 1/4 OZ and several pounds of
good quality buds from a female and only a several grams of male flowers.
The choice is easy for most people.
