    Default Help with new mix

Hey guys, I am looking to go all organic for the upcomming outdoor season, this is something I have never attempted.I have done a good bit of reading and was hoping someone could take a look at my notes and let me know what should be changed/if anything. Not to sure of my measurements but from what I have read I should be ok...? I have found a few mixes that people love however several of the items listed I was unable to find here in Canada.Anyways here is what I have so far.

I should add that I am growing in the ground-no pots.

    Thanks for taking a look.

    Kelp meal-1 cup/CF
    Lime-1 cup/CF
    Bat guano-1 cup/CF
    Worm castings
    extra perlite
    pro mix bales

Also have no problem brewing up some tea for feedings from time to time if you guys think it will help.

    What's up Mattemil?

    1) First off, I'd add enough worm castings to make them about 25% of your final volume.

    2) What kind of guano do you have? If its high P, you'll need to add a nitrogen source to your mix (I recommend some alalfa meal, but blood meal will also work). If it's high N guano, you'll need another source of P to get you through flowering (fish bone meal or high P guano).

Hit up a feed store (farm animal food seller) and pick up a sack of alfalfa if you cant find it anywhere else.

I'd also try to find some Azomite. It's a great source of trace minerals.

Thanks a lot for your time.I have both kinds of guano, high in P and high in N-Would I be okay to use both in the mix? I will grab some alfalfa and azomite this week. How much do you figure I should use of each?

    Thanks again

    For the Azomite, I'd do 0.5 to 1 cup/cf.

For the alfalfa, it's going to depend on whether you use any of that N guano. A good starting point might be something like 0.5 cup/cf alfalfa and 0.5 cup/cf of the N guano. The more diversity the better, but lower the individual quantities as you add more variety.

How big/established will your plants be when they are put in this mix?

I normally send them outdoors at around two feet, I give a good amount of indoor veg-I imagine they will be OK in the mix at that stage, although like I said this is new for me.

You're right. A hot mix shouldn't be an issue if they are already 2 feet tall. You could put them in it sooner than that (indoors in pots) if you wanted. Just not the real youngins...

What general area of Canada are you in? I've been sourcing amendments in Ontario and have found pretty much everything in Sub's mix as well as everything in The Rev's mix. I may be able to point you towards amendments you want/need.

On the other side of the middle? LOL I"m going to assume BC. Check out getgreenstar.com or hydrotek.ca both carry the bulk of the organics we need. Just make sure you order the right stuff
