feminized seeds, are what's the problem with them?

I only use feminized, no worries about males popping up and ruining the rest. For me it works and I just bought more. I love them.

Some people like to be able to work with/improve strains and often cross them with other successful strains. feminized seeds limits your ability to cross strains in certain ways and allow seed producing companies the ability to maintain better control over who has access to there base genetics.

growing feminized seeds also limits your ability to sustain the strain. meaning if at any time you stop growing a specific strain you can only require it by buying more seeds rather then growing your own (can still be done but is more difficult and requires more effort) thus you must keep a strain growing to maintain constant access to it.

weather you agree or not that is the general issue some have with purchasing feminized seeds.

Have used feminized seeds for last yr or so. Have not had any problems. If you figure your losses to regular seeds from males, the fems arent that expensive.

so If I have good regular genetic, can I attempt to breed it with a feminized plant or you can only breed regulars together ?

yeah, you can breed a regular male with a feminized female

And fem seeds seem to have more stability and less variations.

Since i dont do experiments i only buy fems usally.

"Fem seeds are for pussies" says the new TGA shirt. I don't think being feminine is necessarily a bad thing, but I do agree that feminized seeds are less than ideal. Here's why:

1) Feminized seed is produced using hermaphrodite pollen. Hermaphrodites should be avoided as they can herm from stress at any point and turn your sensi crop into a feminized seed F2 crop. I think most are growing sensi for high yielding sticky buds, not seeded calyxs.

2) Males add genetic diversity to a cross. feminized seed is a narrowing of the given gene pool (especially when females are seeded with their own herm pollen)

3) Its a short cut. Most short cuts are due to impatient modern humans and generally detract from quality of the end product, if not downright contaminate it. (ie synth nutes, trimming machines, BHO hash, pesticides, etc)

I could go on and on about why I choose not to use feminized seed. But the main reason I think to stay away is because there are plenty of REAL breeding projects going on all around the world that are using FABULOUS males AND females and actually progressing the game. To me feminized seed is just reshuffling the deck and not really doing breeding at all. I understand that from a home growers standpoint, its nice to not have to cull males. However, if all these HACKS keep polluting the cannabis gene pool with herm feminized pollens, ruderalis, etc. breeders will have to protect their prized males and the value that the males hold may go higher than 'kill em and get em out of the way' status. By the way I mostly grow from clone, but I avoid clones from feminized seed lines whenever possible, except for the original OG, I love her and she came from a feminized seed source in SoCal.

I have read many journals documenting a feminized versus regualr seed grow comparisson, and the regular seeds always kicked the living crap out of the fem seeds in terms of output, size, vigour etc. I'll use fems if i really have to but i will try and use reg beans whereve i can besides, if i buy reg beans then i can take a male and a female and never have to buy that stain again
