How many Gallons does subs soil make?

I've been seriously looking for the past hour trying to find out how many gallons of soil that subcool's current recipe makes.

Has anyone who has made it know how much the final volume of soil was?

My Math could be off, but from the numbers I've found. Just the soil its self is 10 gallons per 1.5cf bag, with all the additives about another 3-5gallons per bag of soil, so you are looking at 100-120gallons of soil roughly. If you go by the recipe. "Disclaimer" this is a rough estimate, I have not made the super soil myself. Hope this helps. happy growing

Yeah the recipe is for a huge amount of soil, but if you were only needing a little, but have the space and what not for a compost pile I think it would be a great starter to just leave there outside and add compostable household trash as it becomes available, and in turn you get really good compost, because really that is what the supersoil is...Compost...lol. When he says he mixes it all up, wets it and leaves it in the sun, it is so everything composts and begins the awesome foodweb process...

More than anything I'm trying to figure out how much blood meal, guano etc is included per gallon of soil. This way I can scale it up or down or make substitutions (I'm not a fan of blood meal, probably substitute some vegan alternative). Can't do this until I can figure out the concentration of npk per gallon of soil.

you can do what i did and just you simple algebra. His recipe calls for 8 bags of soil right? I had 2.5 so if 8 bags calls for 5lbs of blood meal then that means, i need to use (8/5 = 2.5/x) about 1.5 lbs of blood meal (x=1.5).

simple algebra :)

Thanks dante,

I guess the volume of the amendments is really negligible in comparison to the base soil. I was concerned that I would have to factor in that as well, but I guess that's getting way too picky.

So an average bag of soil is around 10 gallons? I will be using my recycled supersoil for the base this time, so I need to go by actual gallons of soil because they aren't pre-measured into bags.

My bag of roots organic says 1.5 cubic ft./38.6 qts./42.5 dry liters.

Thanks Dante, very helpful!

Did a rough calculation on total volume of soil it makes, and it comes out to approx 101 gallons for the full recipe.

Now, that is considering that on average a 5lb container of most amendments like bone meal, guano etc is around 1 gallon, or 3.78 litres - at least the stuff I get in my local area is in a 4L pail, so not sure what everyone else uses, but I would assume the actual volume of space the amendments take up in the soil is very little, consisting of maybe 7-9 gallons of amendments in 100 gallons of soil.

Not sure if this is useful to anyone else, but at least it may give you a rough estimate of how big a batch of supersoil you would want to make depending on how many pots you want to fill, and the size of those pots.

depends on how much you use in the pot. Only 1/4 up to 3/4 can be used in a pot so really depends. It should last a Long time for an average personal plant grow.

Yeah, I factored that in. I know I will need an additional 50-75% of base soil in addition to the supersoil, but thanks for the reminder.

On the weed nerd I think sub mentioned that he gets 3 55 gallon garbage cans from the recipie.
Hope this helps. Vick

If it was two cans then it would fit my estimate perfectly (around 110 gallons). Are you pretty certain it was three?

If not, maybe the material expands and fluffs up a lot when mixed?

Scrolling through them. It might be on the school of dank maybe. Could be its not a whole 3 55 gallon cans but a lil over 2. I'll keep looking through the videos. My Internet isn't the fastest. Sorry for the lag bro.

Not a problem, appreciate you taking the time to look.

I came across another site earlier today where someone mentioned that they made a half batch and it filled one 32 gallon garbage can, and a quarter of another (about 7-8 gallons) which would make that about 40 gallons for a half batch, 80 for a full, roughly estimated.

It's 3 32 gallon cans. Not the 55. Your estimates were correct. Look on the weed nerd thread on page 47. I asked the fellas on there if they knew the total gallons per recipie.
