hello, anyone ever use coco coir in a gorilla grow? just looking for some info on it.

1) are there any brand better than others?
2) how well does it hold water? will it cause root rot?can polymer crystals be used with it and still avoid rot( to extend time between watering)
3)should it be mixed with soil/sand for better results?
4) how well will it hold nutes from batguano/worm castings?

thanx for any info anyone can give me on it, my plan is to haul in a few bricks per grow bag, alot easier than carrying sacks of soil.

I have used coco with really good results and yes to all you questions. smart man my friend. I didnt used the polymer crystals; the coco holds water really well.

mix it in with some native soil and some guano and castings, dig a fat 3x3x3 hole per plant and you will get some huge plants. Then add some liquid nutes at the end of the season. Use Liquid guano if you wanna go organic. fox farm liquids also works well with the coco/soil. I'll post some pictures of the monsters from last year, some stinky trees.

The biggest holes i had grew the 15 footers. probably 4 feet deep. At least 60% coco.

Let it dry until 4 or 5 inches of the top soil are dry, then water really deep. At the end do this cycle of drying and wetting step it up so it dries even more in order to flush and such.

After a few years of using the same holes it turns into a really rich mixture and you can just keep adding more organic nutriets such as guano and liquids.

I get my coco straight from the Indian. He has good coco and gets it straight from his plant in india where it is rinsed and aged.

coco works wonderfully outside, although your plants will need a lot of nutes if your gonna use it straight like I am. Its an inert medium so you have to give your plants all the nutrients. Other than that its like growing hydro outside.

how much coco can you safely add to a pot before it becomes all coco and soiless. I want to add coco as an amendment too my soil mix. Is their a point like over 50 percent coco that the mix starts to need hydor nutes? I want a quarter coco, and the rest soil, compost and perlite. I am going to add wormcastings though too and those worm castings are made mostly from coco, (and coffee grounds). I also add azomite. Greensand. Trace amounts of guano and dolomite. Maybe some gypsum.

But, yeah, If I go over 50 percent coco is it gonna be soiless and need hydro nutes?
