Default few questions.. bloodmeal, seaweed extract help needed
hey all,

I was wondering if it is possible and a good idea to just mix bloodmeal and water to give plants the nitrogen they need. and if so, how much bloodmeal would i need per gallon of water.

and ...

I just bought some seeweed extract and it says to use it every three to four weeks when soil drenching. is this too little? i was planning on using this every other watering. will that be ok?

so this is what i have going

I have blackgold all natural soil that i added wormcastings and more perlite to. I am planning on using the bloodmeal water for the nitrogen i needed. foxfarms big bloom, just cause i like it, and the seaweed extract every other watering.

This is only during veg.

what do you guys think? I know a professionally made good fertilizer would probably work better, but i am kinda interested in adding my own nutes. do you think that this plan will make for healthy plants? thanks in advance

mix 1 tablespoon of it to 1 gallon of water. then you have to wait 3-7 days before usiing it. this is so it can break down and leach the nitrogen into the water. 3 days is the minimum and 7 days for full strength. it has a really really strong and stinky smell to it. you don't want to spill it indoors, your house will reek. just the smell alone makes it not really worth it though. if you use to much of the blood meal it can burn plants with excessive ammonia, so get a soil test kit and water with the blood meal only when necessary. i would recommend using the seaweed extract not just during vegetating but also during flowering as it accelerates maturation. the soil test kit will also be good for the seaweed extract as it increases potassium, iron, and copper levels and reduces manganese. so i would test and water accordingly. if you use 1 teaspoon of the seaweed extract to 1 gallon of water instead of the recommended 2 oz. per gallon, then you would be able to water with it more frequently. you don't want to give your plants to much nutrients as it will kill them, better to little than to much. your plan could make for healthy plants, but what are you going to do for phosphorus?

Thanks for the help queenz, i will definetely get one of the soil tester kits.

as far as phosphorus i didnt really have a plan. the seaweed has .1 phosphorus and the foxfarm grow big has .3. but i guess that the 2 combined still only give trace amounts. what would you recommend? i am up for any suggestions.

also instead of using bloodmeal, would fish emulsions work fine? i think it has a npk of 5-1-1 or something around there. that would help a little with the phosphorus as well. what do you guys think? would a mixture of fish emulsions, seaweed extract and fox farm big bloom be a good combination.

again, i am not new to growing, but am new to adding my own amendments and controling what goes into my soil, so any help or tips are greatly appreciated. thanks again!

ok been doing a little reading and i have some more questions.

so here is my plan as of this minute... for veg- additives- Seaweed extract .1-.1-1.5
fox farm big bloom .1-.3-.7
fish emulsions 5-1-1
molasses 3-1-5

total NPK- 8.11-2.13-7.57

Flowering- Bat guano- 3-10-1
seaweed extract- .1-.1-1.5
fox farm grow big .1-.3-.7
molasses- 3-1-5

total NPK- 6.11-11.13-7.57

what do you all think? i know that phosphorus is a little low during veg, but it should be ok, right? and the flowering nutes NPK looks pretty good, right?

also, will making a tea out of the fish emulsions or bat guano, molasses and the grow big be a bad thing? then i can just foliar spray on the seaweed extract and occasionally soil drench with it.

and most importantly, am i going to burn my plants mixing all of these things together? i plan on applying it conservatively to start and see how they react, but i really do not want to mess up my plants trying to learn to add my own nutrients, so please dont be bashful in telling me that my ideas are bad ones, or good ones.

thanks again

bonemeal has a good amount of N and P in it. I usually top dress with it right before starting flowering to give my plants a little extra N for the first couple weeks of flower while also giving them a nice boost of P. I use FFOF and Earth Juice Bloom and haven't had a problem with any nute burn.

im with donkeyote, i would use some bonemeal for your phosphorus deficiency during the vegatative stage. phosphorus helps plants grow healthy root systems. here is some info i found for you.

Bone Meal- Rich in phosphorus. Stimulates root growth.
Blood Meal- Releases nitrogen quickly into the soil. Use early in season to prevent tender growth that could be damaged by early frosts. Relished by carnivores, so don't use if digging dogs and cats are problamatic.
Cottonseed Meal- Contains all the major elements. Releases nutrients slowly.
Dried Animal Manures- Contain all the trace elements. Works well as a soil enrichment agent.
Feather Meal- Provides a slow release form of nitrogen. Inexpensive, but not widely offered.
Fish Meal- Good source of nitrogen and phosphorus. Inorganic formulas contain added potassium.
Hoof and Horn Meal- Excellent source of slow release nitrogen. Apply early in season to allow time for decomposition and plant absorption.
Liquid Seaweed- Provides the full range of trace minerals. Strengthens the immune system of plants, helping them to ward of diseases. Contains growth hormones that aid in photosynthesis and protein production.
Rock Potash- Maintains its activity in the soil for long periods. Provides ample potassium, difficult to find in many organic fertilizers.

Use nitrogen guano for growth, phosphorus guano for budding and all guano for your plants general health and well being. Also found out while doing this research for you that bat guano is used very successfully in hydroponics to replace the chemical solutions.
