Trying to get prepared to make my own soil(less) and tea for next year's outdoor garden. It's going to be HUGE! very big plants, and lots of water, so I need to make lots of soil and lots of tea. But I have never done either before so I would love all the feedback everyone is willing to give.
Soil: -Buy as many in gallons of dirt as I need to fill my holes. Try to find it off of craigslist or something, obviously organic. -Right dosage of dolomite lime, plus a little extra to be generous in case my ferts drop the ph alot -sphagnum peat moss --------Spread the dirt into like 35 gallon buckets and then add in proper amounts of additives. I think for the soil that's really all I want to do. My thought on this is that I would like the soil just to be the medium(the dirt), the right ph (lime), and aerated and holds moisture, and slowly leaches the nutrients (peat moss). and then make my tea to have all my microbes, macros and micros, minerals and enzymes, so that I can control the dosage of NPK they get through the different stages... anyone have any reason why I shouldn't do it like this? Tea: -water -vermicomposting leachate (microbes, minerals, enzymes) probably will be home made so if anyone has any tips on like good kitchen scraps that will produce a different npk or something that would be cool -wholesome sweeteners blackstrap molasses -bat guano high in PK -fish emulsion for veg -leave out the fish emulsion for the flowering tea. So I want to make two teas, one for veg, and one for flowering. only difference I'm thinking is the lack of fish emulsion in the flowering one. I'm sure they will still have plenty of it from my worm juice, and if I need to I'll give them a dose of N however often is needed. Sound good, did I cover all the needs? would anythign make it better, should I change any of the ingredients to something people have had better results with. And also I need tips on like how often home made teas are used. Do you feed every other watering. I'm thinking because it's organic and there is so many microbes I will have I can feed maybe once a week or less and be just as good. any more would be a waste. Obviously I will figure this out with time, all changes have a learning curve, but all the heads up is appreciated. If you read this whole thing and are willing to respond. THANK YOU SO MUCH. |

there is no shelf life ,the teas have to be used right away or you wind up with a stew that will harm your roots

Thanks. I was reading that if you continue to aerate the tea it will extend the shelf life. I would assume as long as you kept it aerated and in a dark place it the microbes would continue to survive. But why is that if it sits for too long it will create somethign that will "ruin" your roots. |
