Hello all,
For a lack of better terms are "extra" nutrients needed during the grow stages? Has anyone grown healthy plants without adding supplemental nutrients to their organic soil? -Shizzi Last edited by shizzipoof; 08-03-2009 at 10:53 PM.. |

i come from a hydro background, so i tend to try and keep the nutes out of the soil and in the water.i think i can control the nitrogen that way,so my weed doesnt end up tasting like tomatoes.soil amendments with p and k are ok in small quantities so that you can just add nitrogen in veg and just add a lil more p and k in bloom as nitrogen as needed.i have found that some strains do well with very llittle to no nitrogen in bloom.i used to not use any at all,but then i started flushing the soil before bloom to get rid of any residual nitrogen builup in the soil and its realy helps taste in the end.i have noticed that with a pre bloom flush, nutes like earth juice and others with zero nitrogen dont quite cut it and i end up having to supplement nitrogen when i feed.i wish i could just foliar feed it at the end and keep all nitrogen out of the flowers, but id doesnt quite work that way.all i know is its better to have a moderate about of the right nutes at the right time than to feed the crap out of it and curl the sun leaves and make the nugs taste like fireproof ass.

yup it works well for me. coco by itself tents to hold too much water,so cut it down with some perlite.i set up a hydro organic drip system for a buddy using coco and it worked well,i think perlite is organic, but others may argue.it is made from volcanic rock that much is fact.dirt is also organic, remember that, lol.nothing wrong with a little dirt in the mix,it acts as a buffer so the ph of the organic nutes isnt as critical.also,im not quite sure if molasses is such a great sorce of micros,it seems like their are better sorces in my opinion, and you wont need any micros if you use some compost tea, worm castings, good soil ect as they usualy have all the micro nutes the plants will ever need.coco perlite and fir bark and maybe a lil worm castings and compost, but not too much would be a great soiless mix.

so basically, if you are using an organic soil, there is never a need to add more nutrients?

Smaller pots, just keep an eye on the plants, they'll tell you what they want. I'm trying guano/kelp teas+molasses this go round, using Roots Organics soil, in the camo bag. It has enough nutes in the soil to keep the plants healthy for a while, then I'll add tea as needed. |
