My friend just gave me a bag of free black gold organic soil and i was wondering a few things. first how does it compare to other soils (such as fox farm)? how much perlite should i mix in? are what are the best nutes to use in conjunction with the soil? if anyone who uses black gold would respond it would be much appreciated.

Cut it with 20% pearlite

I'd just use Alaska fish 5-1-1 for veg then switch to something more specific for flowering; Earth Juice, high phosphorus bat guano, and molasses works for me.

Never used it. How much is it per 1.5 cu foot bag? That should tell you a bit about quality. Fox Farms is about 18.00 usd at my local hydro store. If it's relatively expensive it's probably good soil.

I'm not a fan of black gold soil. It doesn't have that chunky "black gold" compost soil structure that you would expect from something called black gold. I prefer Ocean Forest mixed with other goodies. It has more of a sand texture with isn't very good for o2 for the microbeasties. Cut it with about 1 part perlite, 1 part Worm Castings, 1 part Composted Cow Manure for a good base soil. I don't think it will be very good on its own though.

I actually like black gold with 30% perlite, but every single bag i've ever used has gnats, so make sure to put an inch of sand on top of the soil (to prevent the larva from hatching). I like it though, as a similarly cheap substitution for Miracle Grow. I only use anything besides ocean forest when the plants are still babies.

I have never burnt a plant with BG. Don't cut it with anything unless you're trying to fill more volume.

i used this soil bcuz miracle gro and that organic one where the only one in longs lol... no complaints just used it on bagseeds lots ans lots
