Default Does Organic Soil Create More Pests???
I just started my second grow. I used Scotts potting soil for my first and with the help of many CFL's, my Plant was awesome.
I wanted to try Organic this time because i wanted a strong Mother plant i can clone off of.I have 4 kush seeds. I sm going to put the clones into a hydro fllod n drain system.
Any way, My question is i am two days in and noticed there are a few bugs in the grow. I did have a few gnats in the first grow but they all left by the timeflowering started. I noticed these little gnats crawling on the soil and on the carpet. There is not that many but i also found a little yellowish bug crawlin that looked like a mini centipede. I want to know if this is normal. I could not Afford Fox Farm, So i went with MG Organic designed for pots. My temps are a little high. Just want to know if any one else had encountered this thanks..

Most good organic soils are alive with microbeasties, fungi, worms and some other little critters. They also can have both good and bad bugs. My experience is that the beneficials far outnumber the pests. I make my own soils and have many little things at different times usually though only when the soil is first put in the container. Being inside now with the soil and it sounds like your plants already in the containers, I would suggest 4 or 5 drops of soap (ivory is the best for this) in your quart spray bottle and and spray the top of your soil and surrounding areas. The little bit of soap will dissolve all soft tissued critters. I hope this helps and that you find the world of organics as good as the rest of us.

I agree, Organics seem like the best way to get a healthy Plant. It just makes sense to use Organics when you grow.

You know the funny thing about organics is that there is so much waste we generate in the house and yard that would not be in landfills. Some many just will not take the time or put any effort into their organics, they all like to say I bought Fox Farm or MG or whatever. I understand some people have to do it this way and glad to see they are learning some lessons in the process. Anyone with 12 square feet of space upward can make their own soil and save a huge expense and have the things in the soil naturally that they are paying a premium price for now. Personally I think my smoke tastes better because mentally I know the amount of work in the soil and certainly appreciate the all round experience......lol Thanks for letting me vent.

I fully agree. I think people are starting to see the benefits from making their own compost. Not only on the earth, but on their pocketbooks. Hopefully the trend continues.

@ Jeezy. MG is notorious (at least to me) for having fungus gnats. If all else fails, just use sand.

Yea i think they are already In my cups. I sprayed the ivory soap on em and it seemed to stop them. There is a alot more than yesterday. They just crawl in and on top of the soil. And then on the outside of the cup. Ten fly away!!!!!

I hope the soap works. I just added 4 Kush plants to the mix. So we will see if the soap thing works.

Any one know what else is good BESIDES lady bugs to get rid of these Gnats????

Thanks
