depends how much u need. Go to home depot or where ever your closest nursery is get a bag of top soil or organic potting soil. Mix in about 25% sphagnum peat moss and 25% perlite (rough estimates will do fine). You can add dozens of other amendments just Google organic soil recipe or w.e. I'm using the soil/peat/perlite along with dehydrated cow manure, alfalfa meal, bat guano, worm castings, peace of mind fruit +flower and dolomite lime to maintain ph.

Of all this the most important is probably the manure, worm castings, and lime. But the peace of mind by fox farms has alot of the essencials in it, its like perfect super mix of additives for under 10 bucks. Ingredients: Feather Meal, Bone Meal, Hydrolyzed Fish, Fish Meal, Fish Bone Meal, Alfalfa Meal, Sulfate of Potash Magnesia, Blood Meal, Bat Guano, Rock Phosphate, Kelp Meal, and Gypsum.

I roll with a 1 bag of Fox Farm Ocean forest and 1 bag Fox Farm Light warrior and I get excellent results every time. The soil is about 15-20 a bag but worth every penny.

Default repost to my thread
homemade soil combinations for those who dont want to mess with store bought crap.
permalink
After getting burnt on alot of bagged soil and not wanting to pay shipping charges for promix or foxfarm, i have come up and researched some soil combinations for the grower who would rather do it all and control it all. So, Here we go: Some mixes are extrememly simple, while other are more complex. I have used at least 4 of these mixes for both mary jane and as an additive for my vegetable garden, all with success.

1st off- a simple combo of 60% organics potting mix (self made) 15% perlite, 10% horticulture sand, and 5% sphagnum moss.

2nd mix- 30% worm castings, 30% vermiculite, 20% perlite, 20 % peat moss

3rd mix- 40% composted soil, 30% worm castings, 20% perlite, 10% guano ( I prefer a lower nitrogen guano, as i use BMO nutes to keep all numbers in check)

4th mix- 1qt. perlite, 1qt vermiculite, 2 qts. worm castings, 1 qt. compost or organic potting soil, 1/4 cup high nitro bat guano 10-3-1, 1/2 cup dolomite lime powder, during flowering add 1 teaspoon horticluturegrade epsom salts per gallon of water, add 1 table spoon of horticulture grade sand, generally water every 3 days.

5th mix- 1/3 perlite, 1/3 peat moss,
1/3 compost or organic potting soil, a cup of worm castings, and a cup of guano.

You will still want to nute around the 4 week ( preferably organic like BMO) and start out with bigger pots, because i've noticed that my plants did not like getting transplanted at all. Could be coincidence though.

A helpful equation to use is : 2 parts sphagnum moss, one part horticulture sand, one part perlite to each 4 gallons of soil...

and like the Dr. mentioned mycho. I personally get mine and most all other trace elements from organic ferts. Preferably BMO nutes (Blue Mountain Organics) ebay only... search BMO here on RiU or Search google. They have all the goodies our wonder plants love!!!! and they are cheaper than all those chemicals with pretty labels!!!! God Bless!!

I was looking for something fast. I was going to add some of my home made worm castings to some coir and then some soil as my diy compost is not near. As I was looking over soil mixes to by I realised that I would still have to add a lot of goodies and so I said "hell" and bought a bag of ocaen forest and aeration mix by organicare potting soil. That will give me 30 gallons of good quality soil. I will prob add some DIY worm castings and more perlite. I might add a brick of coir. That was all bought for about 30 dollars. I figured I guess 30 dollars on soil every 2 months is not so bad. IDK, I need to learn more about mixes and what works, so next grow all dit. I thought I had it, but looking at some soil it was kinds iffy.
