Default Molasses, what is it good for?
I recently posted a tread on the plant problems forum about a potential mild overdose on molasses. (everything is fine and dandy now) I had heard that it is good to water with the black sticky every now and again because the soil micro-organisms will eat it and multiply. I also heard it is a very mild plant food. Some people did not agree that this is something I should be using right now and should only be used the last couple of weeks. I just wanted to hear some different opinions on how different people use the stuff and why. Thanks in advance.

Oh yea and my ladies are about 4 weeks old. I have been using molasses mostly in my various teas and the plants seem to love it.

blackstrap molasses i heard is good, your plant turns the sugars into energy and suposedly increased dry weight by up to like 20% more...
from another source I've heard molasses is good for your plants when they're in a really cold environment but don't quote me there

Plants do not eat the sugars directly.

For a moment I am reminded of a movie called Idiocracy...

" Brawndo: The Thirst Mutilator, Its got Electrolytes !!!"

The plant does NOT uptake sugars. The sugars are eaten by the Micro organisms in the soil.

This gives you a thriving microherd that will break down the ammendments into N, P, or K which the plant can then uptake.

ah yes.....long live the microherd. What time in the grow should us it? If it feeds the micros than it seems like you should water with some throughout. What are potential problems of a buildup?

I used mollasses in almost every watering throughout an entire grow recently with no ill effects.
Actually the bud was so good I'm doing it again.
The only problem I did notice was the potting mix was getting quite crusty from all the sugar so I cut down the amount.

Here we go again with the molasses all the time...

When you are all coming back here asking why your ph is all screwed up or why you have so many bugs remember I told you so.

Maybe some can get away with it...

Re: OregonMeds,
So are you trying to day that using Molasses is bad? I'm an outside organics guy and been using the big"M" for the last 2 yrs and have never had any problems from it. I even used it this last outdoor season thru out the entire grow using it 3 times a week and my kids were AWESOME best yr yet.

So if you are saying that Molasses is bad I would have to say you are probably one of the very few people saying that. I also have many friends who are outdoor growers and use the M with wonderful results.

Please explain?

Molasses is definitely proven itself in organic gardening. Feed the soil not the plant, that is kinda what organic gardening is all about. I was just wandering how other people used it in the indoor garden. Some people use it only at the end and some through the whole grow. I like the idea of feeding the micro herd, but I dont want to screw with the ph of my soil. I have heard that mixing it and letting it sit for a while will help the ph balance. Any more information about the subject both good and bad would be great. Thanks for all the info so far.
