Default i need compost but dont have any yet
for my next grow i want to be fully organic no chems and such here are some questions/problems i have

1. i dont have any compost yet because its winter. could i go into to woods and take some of the black topsoil there and use it in combination with my grow? will it have an unstable PH?
2. if a grow with a medium comprised of: promix, some form of compost, worm casting(i hope walmart still has them). would i need anythign else besides water?
3. should i heat the topsoil i get from the woods? as to kill all potential pests?
4. could i do this with a simple dripper system rigged up and bever have to add nutes?

thanks guys i am an experianced grower but not in organics

Ghost420.... Rich healthy soil - is rich healthy soil, wheter you get it out of a bag or from the forest. If the plants growing in the wooded area you speak of are healthy / abundant - go dig up a few gallons of it. Say 3.5 gallons in two five gallon buckets.
.
Then mix in some alfalfa pellets (rabbit food), two cups per gallon of soil - plus add some browns - like oak tree leaves, torn up cardboard boxes, shreded newpaper (no colored pages), or grass clippings from the lawn. Let your five gallon buckets of compost sit it in a sunny spot & no worries.
.
The alfalfa will provide enough NPK to jump start the compost process - feeding the microbeasties - heating up the mix and helping the process along.
.
You will not need to heat up the soil, afterwards, the composting process will take care of that for you. Because it is cold, the process will not be as quick as in the spring or summer - but it will get done. Fluffing or mixing it up once a week - speeds things along.
.
You could rig up a dripper system, but I personally prefer to water / feed by hand. That way I can tend to each plants individual needs. Some need more, some need less.
.
Hope this helps....

Ghost420.... You are welcome. Here is a thread I think you will like about mixing up a soil to use from seedling to finish.
