Hey everyone,

I got this recipe off of another site, and I actually put it to use which is 1.5 cu. Ft. FFOF soil
1/2 cu. Ft. Perlite
1/8 cu. Ft. Worm castings
2 ½ C dolomite lime
1 ½ C kelp meal 1-0-4
1 1/2 C high N guano
1 1/2 C high P guano
Coco @ 20-30% optional which i Did

I ran this soil outside this summer and had a nice harvest with a descent weight and some strong buds. I feel it could have been way better. I was thinking of replacing the coco with the Fox Farms Light Warrior at 30% or so to help aerate the soil which I hear Light Warrior was actually created for Ocean Forest for that purpose. Anyways I have been wondering why so much lime? Is Lime Necessary.....or just more necessary for outside? Cause Im going to be going indoors under a 1k with this next run which Im getting ready for in a 4x4 cabinet at 8ft high......with 8 plants under a 1k. I was wondering what I should do about that lime because I want to run the PBP Series for this run but I have heard that PBP in Ocean Forest with Lime and if I were to add compost as well that it would cause burning and browning of the leafs? Is this true? I ran Meta Naturals with my last run outside and used this exact mix above as well as brewed a compost tea from KIS with some nice results. I just feel like things could have been a lot better, but then again it was my first organic soil run. I like brewing the Compost tea.....and It really seems to help the plants out...but I dont wanna burn them especially since their inside cause I was also thinking about adding a good amount of compost to that soil recipe in hopes of it uptaking a lot more nutrients. Anyone have any suggestions or advice on what I should do with this soil recipe and what line of nutrients to run. I liked the MetaNaturals especially because it promotes Microbrial life and when adding compost tea to it, really beefs the Microbes up! Anyways thanks In Advance for any input!

EarWax420..... Foxfarm Ocean Forest is a good quality soil, but it is mixed a bit hot (NPK wise). Cutting it with the Light Warrior is a good move. I'd go 30 percent Light Warrior, 20 percent plain sphagum peat moss and 50 percent Ocean Forrest. Leave the other amendments out, or you risk it being too hot, which will stunt plant growth (aka-nute burn).

This can occur easily when your mix is too hot, roots will not fully develop (aka-stretch out / expand) and your plants will suffer stunted growth and reduced yields. You can have too much of a good thing.

If soil growing is new to you, let me say - don't exspect the same yields as hydro at first. After you get a few Organic Soil Grows under your belt, it will all click and you can produce not only great tasting buds, but plenty of them.

Light Warrior can't touch coco where aeration is concerned. If you want serious results..... coco + guano = all you'll ever need.

Interesting Earwax. I'm doing exactly what you suggested with the coco and light warrior mix.
You need to add about 30% perlite to the coco for optimal drainage so I thought, What the hell? why not just go with the light warrior, its like 80% perlite already. Didn't need the dolomite because Light warrior pH is regulated by seashells.
So I did about 70-30 Coco-Light Warrior and this Rainbox Mix Grow dust (has michorizzae and other good stuff)Plants are strong and healthy. Been using Big Bloom, but thats it. Any nutrient suggestions?

hey bud thanks for the input. Do you think adding a good Compost to the mix could replace the peat moss? It seems like If I mixed the light warrior in with some goooood compost which KIS has, then that seems it would be a good mix. One thing I have a question about is how can I determine the 30%? Well first I should ask this, Ok In a 4x4 space under a 1k Im going to run 8 5 gallon pots. So how much soil do you think that would take. Im trying to figure out if getting a 1 bag of light warrior, 1 bag of Ocean Forest and a good amount of compost........would that be enough....I want to make sure I have enough, so i dont mind if I had some left over to store. I been kickin this around because I dont want to mix it up and let it set for 2 weeks only to come back to it not being enough....LoL.....I feel like such a NEW B!
I got through this last run with the mix I posted above and its just amazingly potent. Since I had already PH adjusted COCO I guess I didnt need the lime but I didnt know that. I dont really even know what the lime does, or what its benefits are for the plants. I mean I know it acts as a soil buffer to control PH, but is it necessary, and why is it necessary? Anyways that mix was outside and stunk the whole perimiter of the house up along with half the block!
