Default quick tea question
I've looked through many posts but when I find recipes, containing rock phosphate and/or cottonseed, it's usually in parts. I can figure the ratio of ingredients but the fertilizer to water ratio eludes me. Should I be using a cup or Tbsp? The ingredients I have are:
Cottonseed meal, rock phosphate, bone meal, kelp, molasses and humate.
I was thinking something along: 1 part cottonseed/ 2 parts rock phosphate (initially) and then 1 part kelp/ 1 part rock phosphate (later bloom)
I've been feeding fish emulsion and kelp for veg; with a hit of Hasta 6-12-6 every few feedings. I'm switching to bloom and would like to know a good mix, if anyone can give some advice.

Jolly G' the Giant...... Low, Slow & Steady.... Use the following recipe:
.
(1) tablespoon of Cottonseed Meal (acidic)
(4) tablespoons of Rock Phosphate (alkaline - breaks down slower)
(2) tablespoons of Bone Meal (slightly acidic or alkaline - depends on how it was processed)
.
(1) teaspoon of Kelp (slightly acidic)
(1) teaspoon of humate (acidic)
(1.5) ounces of unsulphured Molasses (neutral)

.... mixed to one gallon of unchlorinated water. Let sit for two days, or bubble for one. Then mix with one additional gallon of unchlorinated water - shake for one minute. Test the pH of this mix - to determine it's final pH. Since, everyone's water is slighly different, I can not give you an exact final pH.
.
It should be around 6.3 to 6.6 pH. If too low (acidic - under 6.3) add more rock phosphate, if too high (alkaline - 6.7 or over) add more Cottonseed Meal. Small adjustments - by the teaspoon. Wait 30 minutes & recheck pH, until in the correct range. This numbers are correct for soil; if you are growing in hydro - shoot for 5.3 pH & TDS between 700 ppm & 850 ppm in the reservior.
.
One additional ingredient would make this a super list - High P Bat Guano or High P Seabird Guano. Numbers like 0-4-0 up to 0-7-0. One tablespoon per batch.
.
Water in at the rate of one quart per plant. Repeat every 5 days, stop at week 6 of flowering - or reduce strength if signs of nute burn appear.
.
Hope this helps....

Ohsogreen, it helps tremendously. Thank you so very much. +rep 4 U. Will pick up some guano today and toss it in. Do you ever use humate in either soil prep or tea making?
[jollygreengiant8] "i have to say nice name haha"
Yours too.

Quick question for the tea gods (mainly ohsogreen) regarding making teas.

Can anyone see anything wrong with making a huge batch at once and use it for most of the veg phase. Iam talking 40 gal approx?
Then do the same for the flowering phase?
Would the nutrients/bacteria/organisms break down over time?
Cheers from aus

Nswbasalt.... I prefer to make no more than 5 gallons at a time. Large batches attract insects, require constant oxygenation, and can end up being a waste of ingredients.
.
If you made a big batch and kept it oxygenated, the micro-beasties in it would continue to multiply and bioconvert everything in the mix, until it was completely (soluble) broken down. Each time you pulled from that big batch, the mix would be more soluble than the time before - to the point, eventually you could end up over feeding Mary by accident, - causing a slight nute burn.
.
Hope this helps...

Yeah that makes perfect sense.
Thanks for taking the time to explain it. I just have a huge tank that i could strap to the back of my ATV which would saving a lot of mucking around. I guess making the tea and buggering around makes it all that more worthwhile.

Thanks again
