Default How about charcoal ashes

Hey guys, What do you think about using charcoal shes as a k supplement?
I live on the pacific narthwest, and hardwood ash is tough to come by. I do know that charcoal is made from hardwood, so whats the harm if i light it with newspaper instead of lighter fluid. any input is cool.
