    Default New to Portland, OR???

    What up all?

I answered a thread a bit ago on someone's question on 'Where to find bud if you're new to Portland, OR'. Unfort I can't give you a simple answer, and no, that person that will hook you up will not be me. BUT, there are plenty of people in that great city that will, and I can point you in a great direction where you will also see some cool parts of the city, too.

The answer to this riddle, is to head downtown to the main Voodoo Doughnuts location near the burnside bridge. Here, you will visit a place that is famous throughout the nation for their crazy recipes and delicious, freshly made doughnuts, as well as stand in line with hippies & stoners that smell of more various strains than the types doughnuts you can buy from Voodoo haha there's so many chill people that go there who would prob be willing to help ya out if you approach them the right way. Maybe offer to buy their doughnut & milk? You will also be in the vicinity of many great pubs with plenty of baked locals grubbin!

Best of luck to all you new to town, and welcome to Oregon!

Thanks for posting this, I hear they used to have a donut with NyQuil in the middle and one with bacon on top! I am a new member and just moved up here this month from phoenix arizona for school and to be close to family, and i have been having a tough time meeting people. I'm not used to dealing with strangers seeing how if you did something like that in phoenix you would either get robbed or arrested. My friends know people up here but nobody wants to introduce me for reasons which i cannot say. I have friends in the northwest but they are either in Eugene or Tacoma and i don't have a car at this time. I have been searching the waterfront for people but i always seem to find some hay ass work that is unsatisfying. I decline and tell them this is pathetic for oregon because i can grab better in phoenix. I would try and ask customers at a head shop but i think that would trip somebody out seeing how undercover cops used to do this in my city. There was a second thought about meeting someone in a bar but usually people trip when complete strangers ask questions. I was going to attend Hempstalk but i ended up going to see an old friend in Hawaii. Is there any other festivals around here of this sort?
I also was wondering if you know of a good website that explains how to get a medical marijuana card and a list of the conditions that apply? do they have dispensaries up here? i know in california you can pretty much tell the doctor anything and have a state ID and this will get you a card any day.

Yes, get the Bacon Maple Bar @ Voodoo Doughnuts!!! It's my favorite. Never seen anything like it, but the crispy bacon is such an original flavor n makes it go down like you wouldn't believe!!!

Not sure about festivals. My biggest guess, would be a local Octoberfest festival. They typically are going on around this time of year, and will go into the first couple weeks of October. Just google octoberfest in your local area and see what comes up.

As for the card. It's a bit trickier than Cali. What you need to do is get establised with a primary care physician (ER does not count incase u have been). Once you are established, goto your first appt & complain about either severe pain (anywhere in your body, doesn't matter), tell your doc you are having bad migraines, and if you wanna throw a cherry on top, say insomnia & trouble eating. But maybe ya don't wanna go too crazy or he may think you really are fucked up and need some serious medical attention that could cost you more haha.

So after that first appt, you now need to schedule a followup that is spaced out 30 days or more from your first

After this second appt, you now have the minimum required history with an OR physician, and as long as you have your Oregon Drivers license and are now officially residing here, all you need to do is goto OMMP's main website

    http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ph/ommp/

and find the Tele/Fax #'s listed for forwarding your records. I gave them a simple call to verify the process. Some stoner answers the phone, said all I needed to do was goto my doc's office & sign a release form to fax my records up. Your records will have all your personal info on it as long as it's up to date, and so you don't need to submit anything personally with them. They get your records for the one & only purpose of review & preapproval. If your records are not accepted, they will discard them and you will not hear back. If you qualify (which as long as your records say the word pain, migraine, ... you will be fine) then they will call you back within a week (I heard back in 4 days) and they will schedule you up in Portland with one of their medical doctors for final approval & stamping. That took 30 min. You walk in a place w/ cannabis posters everywhere. Everyones smiling. Doc sits you down to verify & hear from your mouth pain, n the sec that's done, stamp.

You then take your stamped paperwork down to DHS (Department of Human Services) and pay the small state fee to get your final stamp on your medical card to make you officially legal & have everything properly submitted with the state. The sec you walk out of DHS, you're good to go my man!

They have some cool cannabis clubs up in Portland, too. Pay a membership fee, and there's free bud that has been donated to the club in vaporizer bars n shit like that for all members that enter the premises n blaze on. Pool, shuffle board, sports, whatever. Pretty cool shit! Haven't been yet, but i will.

Damn that sounds like a pain in the ass! So basically i need 2 doctors appointments to prove that i suffer from some kind painful condition, my oregon state ID and then i go about getting the 3 stamps? How much did all that cost you? I'm guessing once you get the card that it will limit your job opportunities as well? and does it list your condition on your card?

do you know of any cheap dive bars with dark beer on tap and pool tables? That's all i ask for in a bar! I live around Northwest Portland just off the 26 and Cedar Hills but I'm willing to go downtown if i have to.

its actually not tha hard if your condition really is bad then you should have doctor papers already saying so. it doesnt sound like you have one at all cuz you said i need for any type of pain condition. and i never had to get 3 stamps from no one. it all cost around 225 but if you have proof of food stamps it is reduced to 120. and no it doesnt effect jobs opportunities becasue no employer will know you are a medical patient. unless they piss test you then yes it limits the jobs cuz alot of employers are not medical friendly witch is bullshit cuz they are pill popper friendly. and no it doesnt list the condition on your card

Not sure brotha, I'm not actually in the Portland area. Just close by. I did stay in Downtown Portland one night @ The Embassy Suites when I was there to see my boy LeBron at a Cavaliers/Trailblazers game, but most of the drinking was at the game. I did see on the restaurant guide that there were atleast 10 brew pubs in the area, some will even be on a pier or something with really cool settings. You should check em out. Any good microbrewery will have it's fair share of choices, and that will include some good darks. I had a 'Black Creme Stout' (or 7) at the basketball game that was local and FUCKED ME UP. I think they were 8% or more. But ya, don't let the creme part deceive, that beers is dark & hoppy!

And no, the card things really isn't as much of a process as it sounds. I was just giving you good detail. If you're not insured, then looking around for a clinic that offers a SLIDING SCALE CHARGE SYSTEM will be best. I'm not insured, and my clinic bills me $185 per visit, and then reimburses a credit of $170, so just $15 a visit. It's a pretty sweet setup, and they are amazing for offering such a service. There should be plenty in the Portland/Beaverton area. Getting a car or bike will def help you in getting around. Get a map for the Maxx train. The blue, red, green, ... n whatever else lines that they have run all over the place and is rated one of the best rail transportation systems in a metropolitan area. If you have a bike to get to one of those, you'll be set til you have a set of wheels.

well i was hit by a car in a motorcycle accident and ever since then, anytime i sneeze really hard it feels like i get electrocuted through the left side of my body. Sometimes i do get random sharp pains in my back but they usually occur randomly. this is common with a herniated disc but the pain is not consistent so i don't think they would give me one. Seeing how i haven't been to the doctor yet would mean i would probably need xrays or an mri ( not sure which one they would use) to prove my back was messed up. Unfortunately for my back, I still love motorcycles though and i plan on getting another one. probably a drz 400 supermoto (not sure if you like bikes).

I agree with you MCpurple, fuck government heroin! I would rather be an Medical marijuana patient than experience withdrawals from synthetic codeine. plus my father is an orthopedic surgeon and he doesn't like prescribing opiate medications for pain because it actually slows the healing process by a noticeable amount! Inhaling carbon monoxide does lower your immune system too but that's what vapes are for!

i have my card for a brokin back. i was ina car accident and broke it in 2 places in 07. and every time after that when i went to the docs i let them know that i was still in pain from it i was givin pills to help it but i didnt like so i kept going in about my back pain. i just brought in my doc papers that said when i visited and why i visited witch was usally because i was experiencing back pain and i got my card, they dont really need the xrays but im sure it would help. your condition sounds pain full. i like motor cycles i really like dirt bikes, but i like street bikes as well just never rode on but will some day. and the doc you see at the marijuana clinics are just theri to sign the paper work. all they asked me was my pain level. its easy to get if you have legitimate reasons.
and i hate pain pills but unfortanatly i am back on them because i am on supervised probation and the law doesnt allow medical marijuana while on probation. i am still a legal card holder though and its bullshit. they let people take all types of pills that are far worse them MJ while on probation.

My doctor diagnosed me with fibermyalsia. To help confirm this, they sent me into imaging for 2 MRIs, one of my neck & another of my lumbar. Both MRIs came up fine showing no problems. This was good in the scense that nothing was seriously wrong with my back, as I do have moderate to severe pains on a daily basis, however, they said fibermyalsia typically shows up on a MRI. So while it did not show up, they said in certain cases things such as that do not show up, and I still got my card. It comes down more to what is in your doctors notes. I mean, being hit by a motorcycle sounds MUCH more traumatic than my daily pain. And trust me, it's not like my doc made some huge writeup about my pain n whatnot. They just have to jot down your reasons for the visit in the order in which they are a health threat. So on my records it'd say priority 1) severe back pain, secondary 2) migraines, 3) insomnia, ... ya know? Don't be discouraged by the process. It really is not that hard to get accepted and stamped. And the other thing, is if you qualify for food stamps or family assistance on food stamps they discount your card even more because it's part of the DHS branch. Rather than the $180 Doc appt and another $100 or so to get the card stamped at DHS I think it was $100 for the clinic appt and $20 for DHS to stamp, and that's on top of your two primary care visits. Which again, I'm able to find for $15 a piece uninsured. So this isn't gonna run too deep. It sucks that the process is a lil bit more complicated.
