Default Do you soil growers use a water reservoir?
Sorry if this is a stupid question but do you guys who grow in soil use a watering reservoir to water your plants or do you just mix the needed amount on watering day just in a water jug? I'm thinking of setting up some kind of watering container that has a tap on the bottom and hook up a watering wand and just water straight out of that container instead of running around with gallons of water up and down my stairs. Obviously I'll be checking the Ph and stuff daily and keeping the water at the optimal Ph. And if I go this route should I add nutes directly to the container or add the nutes on feeding days? If this is what you guys are using what did you make your water container out of, what would be the best way of doing this?

I keep a couple of gallons out overnight to let the chemicals like chlorine and such to get out of my water for my babies.

if you are using tap water you should let it sit for atleast 1 but preferably 2 days to let the chlorine evaporate. Go out and get yourself an air pump and air stone you get get both for under $15 and this will keep your water oxegenated and moving as well as helping you mix your nutes up, the extra oxygen to the roots will make your ladies very happy. A 5 gallon res is generally more than enough assuming your not working with a large op.

You'd need to circulate your holding tank or the pumped out water wouldn't be evenly balanced, right?

I also use a water pump to circulate when I'm using nutes but I don't know that it's necessary, definately not necessary with just water. either way the water pump can be gotten at any hardware store for under $20 as well.

What do you guys use to make the container out of? Is there anything that can be purchased that's pretty much ready to go at a hardware store just hook up the pump and tap and you're good to go? Also, is it recommended to put a lid on the water or is it okay to leave it uncovered?

I would suggest a cooler type container with built in drain spout. A coleman cooler. I liked it cuz it had a lid that closed snug. Works well just put it on a table or elevate it slightly so you can access the spout easily to pour your water/nute mix. That should be perfect for you, you can even modify it if you like to hold your pump, and airstone real stealth like. Peace.

a coleman cooler! why didn't i think of that, that's exactly what i need thanks bro. I've never worked with water pumps before but i do believe most of them hang over the side, correct? what do you think would be the best way to modify the container to hold the pump?

All you really need is a 5 gallon bucket. Get a water pump that is used for ponds or bird baths, which will sit at the bottom of the container. Then just get a few feet of tubing to attach to the pump and you can just pump the water right out into your watering bucket much faster than waiting for a cooler to drain and the container will be much less bulky. It is a very simple system that works flawless, quick, and cheap. It will also be easier to dump and clean, and with the coleman you will need to constantly be tipping the cooler because the nossel isn't flush to the base it is raised and inch or more. Keep it simple and small and you will have no problems.

Or you could just do the bucket like he said. I didn't make any mods to the cooler, I only used it cuz I had it at home and said instead of spending money I'll use this. It has worked fine for me, I just put my pump right in it, with my airstone. I am gonna upgrade to a trash can with lid style water reservoir. Just drill holes in it for my tubing and such.

The bucket method or trash can would be more convenient and efficient. But like I said I had a cooler not being used laying around. I didnt have five gallon buckets laying around. You take your pick. lol. Peace.
