so i have 2 arjans haze #3 growing right now. the first one had about an extra week or so on the smaller one, but the first one was never as spindly as the 2nd.

-a few of the differences between them are the first one has more soil (and was closer to the lights, but i fixed the height of the 2nd two days ago)
-1st one has perlite, sand, and soil, the 2nd has nothing but soil
-because the 2nd one has lack of soil height, the wind from the fan isnt hitting it

which of these factors do you think is mostly the culprit? or is it just genetics? should i replant the smaller one into a cup with more soil and also having perlite and sand?

also, how much longer till i should transplant the first one?

I wouldn't disturb the little one. Just take a pair of scissors and trim the cup down.

it could just be that you have two different phenotypes. good luck!

good thinking. yeah its not really tall enough to get hit by the wind. the cup is blocking it.

I think its in the soil. Perlite and sand allow the roots to breath more and drains water faster.

I agree. It takes a while before the plant can really start exerting some muscle pushing roots through the soil. When they are young like this, you are just making it harder for roots to get established and they grow slower. Perlite is your friend. Gives young roots space to stretch out aerates the soil.

That and possible pheno variations probably account for what you are seeing. It's why you want to keep everything as consistent as possible so you can recognize pheno traits when they DO appear.
