Default About to start a (first) new grow.
Ok so i'm about to start my first grow and i'm using 10 blue widow seeds from joey weed. My grow space is about 4' by 3' and i'm using the 400w HPS system from high tech garden supply. Im using fox farm nutes, a timex single program timer, and a 6" clip-on fan. I'm gonna germinate using the paper towel method. and then i'm gonna put the germed seeds into 6" pots with a soilless mix (peat moss and perlite) but im not gonna use any CLFs so how high should i start with the light above the new seeds and when should i start to lower it closer to the plants hight? And how does this setup sound?

Your Setup Sounds Great!
Since your not using floresants to gerinamte you should keep your 400w HPS 2.5'ft 3'ft above for the first few days, lowering it slowly day by day.

Your really going to have to watch them the first few days you dont want your young babbies to dry under your high power light.

Thats why i love starting under CFL's the plants can practicly touch the bulbs.... EASY!!! Simple anyway Hope that helps

Happy Growing

One thing that you may of missed, or I did, was do you have an exhaust? You'll need one. Lower the light ever day. I am doing some right now, and by the 3rd or 4th day, my light is about 1' away from the newbies. Just keep em watered.
Peace
