| | Pics of First Grow! | | This is my first attempt. I've just ordered some reflective mylar to "complete" my grow-room. I may invest in some better lights, but they seem to be getting the job done. Not too bad for a first-timer? |

| | They look nice, but VERY stretched. If possible you should try to get some CFL side lighting. You could also tie them down & lower the light so that they grow more bush like. |

Do you think the reflective mylar will substitute enough for the CFL side lighting, or is just a wise and necessary investment regardless? I'm not sure I know what you mean by "tie them down." Mind giving me the cliff's notes on how to do that? I sure as hell don't want to screw these up.

| | your set up looks like you have ALOT of room, use those current floros you have as some veg lighting and get a HID for flowering, or just get a HID that is MH and HPS and just replace those lights, mylar you should get for sure.

| | oh but it looks good so far for how limited you are with lights at the moment.

| | Thanks, everyone. I've got a new batch of seedlings starting for another crop. The plants above (and the new seedlings) are unfortunately schwag, but I don't want to waste money on good stuff until I know what I'm doing. Besides, I have faith I can take cheap schwag and make into something a little better using the proper nutes, soils, care, etc. I'll practice cloning this next batch of schwag so I don't have to go through the hassle of germination, seedlings, etc.
My grow-room is a 12' x 12' x 8' with cement walls (no windows). I built a make-shift frame out of PVC, but it definitely needs to be tweeked for better stability, more ease of use, electrical outlets, etc. I'm going to paint the basement white and line the new PVC frame with black plastic (on the outside and top) and with reflective mylar on the inside. I hope to section the room into a few different areas (i.e. seedlings, germination, vegetative, budding, etc.). You all have definitely convinced me to invest in better lights for flowering. I suppose I'll continue to use my 4' plant/aquarium flo lights for veging and seedlings. I'll implement the tie-downs on this next batch and practice with those. This next batch will definitely be my extreme "experimental" batch before I jump into the costly stuff.
I'll search the board and web for more information on better lights. I'm still unsure of what all the initials mean (e.g. CFL, HID, MH, HPS). All I know is growing is one of the most rewarding feelings of accomplishments. I'm hooked on the pride of growing, now. I almost (almost!!!) don't care about smoking them. I'll get it there soon and keep you all posted.
Any other advice on the above set up is much appreciated!

| | Welcome... as said side lights, mylar or flat white paint walls will all help..be careful tying, you start early bending..you can still do it but don't go nuts...it takes a bit of time to train baby..

| | Alright, we found a cherry cush seed (only one seed, I know). Let's all hope and pray it's a female seed! I'm storing it until I get the mylar and new lights. I may even wait until this new batch of schwag seedlings are usable for experimenting cloning and such. Cuz I'm gonna clone the hell out of this mother plant if I can.
