Cfl = compact flourscent
hid = high intensity discharge (hps or mh)
hps = high pressure sodium (most lumens of all) (best for budding)
mh = metal halide (like an hps but less lumens but more light spectrum) usually used for veg cycle.

I cant remember what else you wanted to know but these are the only lights you want to worry about. WM

Thanks, boss. I've been on 1000bulbs.com trying to find something I can pay for cash locally. I'll keep the 40W 4' flo's for vegging and seeding (using mylar and black plastic to condense the light and lumen concentration) and will look into CFL screw-ins for side lighting of the flowering plants and overhang either HPS or HID.

The new PVC base I'm designing should help compartmentalize the seeding, vegging, and flowering stages (as well as cut down on disbursement of light throughout the square footage). It's 10' (L) x 7' (T) x 3' (W). The plants (seedlings and flowering) will be raised up 2' so I can put fans underneath the plants. The top of the PVC stand will have the outdoor exhaust piped directly into it and will be completely closed off with black plastic and mylar. Using 2" pipe I can run all my cords through the stand for a bit cleaner and safer working environment.

What about having the fans moving air underneath the plants? I've heard you do not want fan-air directly on the plants. Would I need a fan up higher to cool the HID, HPS, or MH lights? Or is the fan used more to encourage CO2, dehumidification, and prevent stagnant air? I can get small clamp-on lights to blow directly on the lights, but will the larger fans underneath (angled up, slightly) be adequate?
