Ok I'm looking for some advice on which to pick for my lighting system, here are the options

2 40watt bulbs

2 20watt bulbs but in close proximity

3 20 watt bulbs also in close proximity

so which do you guys recommend

I suggest no less than 8 - 23watt 5000k and 8 - 40watt 2700k for veg. For flowering, 4 - 23watt 5000k and 12 40watt 2700k.

rkm is right...the amount of lights you are currently persuing would only be enough for 1 or 2 plants. You will need at least 2 20+ watt CFLs for each plant during veg. & double that amont during flower.
