Hi, Im a fist time grower and im looking to get a little setup going, Nothing too big, Just some smoke for myself (thats why i'm useing lowriders).

The most plants I will have growing is 6 at a time.

I've made the space (22"w x 24"d x 39"h) under a desk witch I will line with alububble insulation.

I want to put them in 5L bottles (sprayed black so the root's dont steal the light) with a 200w CFL light. I will be keeping the temperature at 25c / 78f and the humiidity at 40% - 50%. I will have the light on 24/0 for the first month and 18/6 afterwards. I will also put a 6" desk fan in there too to strenghten them and a small computer fan for the outtake.

Like I said it's only my first time so I'm not going to bother with nutes and that just yet, I'll see how thing's go.

Anyway, How does this sound?
Will I produce much (if any weed) with this set up?
Any tips would be most appreciated.

(This was all found out through research and i have never grown myself so if any is incorrect please let me know)

dont be afraid to use nutes, theyre cheap, easy to use, im first timer aswhell

without nutes your plants will suck, bottom leaves will fall of and buds will be small.

I think you may end up a little cramped for space if you intend having six plants in there, although unless you're using feminized seeds you'll be able to get rid of the males at some point as they get bigger. I would spray the bottles matte white. Black absorbs light, whereas white will reflect it and increase the amount of light bouncing around the lower leaves. You will have to think about nutes, but as long as you use decent soil it will feed them for several weeks (months if it has added nutes already). If you feed too soon it can cause serious damage. Just feed when they start to look like they need it. Add perlite to your soil (about 25% or more) to help drainage and to aereate the soil. Use as much light as you can - high lumens - they need lots of it. And don't water too often. A good soak and then let them dry out really well before you water again. Also make sure your bottles have holes in the bottom to allow excess water to drain away or else your roots will rot. Molasses and epsom salts in the water will help them. Good luck

Sounds good.

The only drawback is painting the containers. Have you tried this yet and if you did is the paint sticking to the container ok? I mean is it flaking off at all?

22" X 2.54 (cm/") = 55.88cm

NEMAD - size in cm is 56cm x 61cm x 99cm (W x D x H).

GREENBEHEMOTH - Yeah, I think I will just go for four plants, Planting a new one every 2 weeks (hopefully keeping the cycle going).
Good thinking about the white, Cant believe I didnt think about that?!

What would be the best type of soil?

Is it ok to plant them straight into soil with nutes or start them off in ordinary soil first in smaller pots?

Is it ok to use nutes if there are nutes already in the soil?

I'll have to do a little bit more research about nutes now unless you guys know of any good ones?

INCOGNITO - I've not set this up yet but was thinking more along the lines of spray paint and not paint. I have sprayed plastic before and used a primer type spray that makes it stick but im not 100% if this will work on bottles?


The reason for useing bottles is because of budget same as the CFL light, I would of used HPS but reading about them they cost too much to run and get pretty hot (which isnt good when living at home with parents).
Will this affect my yeild dramaticly? (I.E half the amount of bud of what i would of got if i used a HPS and plant pots) If that makes any sense?

And is everything else I said about temperature, Humidity ect about right?

go for a soil that fast growing veg like but seeing as it's ur 1st grow, i'd go for 1 that has added nutes already..DON'T feed new seedlings if the soil has added nutes cos you'll kill em.
i know..I've done it!!
if the soil has added nutes, it'll feed em for a good fe weeks b4 they need any manual feeding.
how do u intend to germ the seeds? ucan shove em straight into the soil but willtake longer to germ. i put em between 2 sheets of kitchen towel, moisten the towel with a spray bottle and stick em in a plastic back, seal that to keep the moisture in, and stick in on ur windowsill.should germ in about 2-3 days. then just put em a couple of inches into the soil with the tap root (the little white bit that sticks out of the seed when cracked) pointing down and keep the soil moist!

Buy good quality soil, or a specialist "mix" even. Don't use Miracle Grow as it has caused lots of problems for people, eg causing nute burn. Do plenty of reading about soil mixes and nutes and you'll be fine.

Oh I forgot to mention it's a real good idea, if not essential, to have a moving fan on the plants at all times. This will make sure the leaves have a constant supply of CO2 (and O2 of course in the dark) and will also make sure you get nice thick, strong stems. It also helps to keep your temperature down.

DIXIE78 - Thanks for that, yes that has helped. Yeah thats the way I was going to germinate them, I dont like the idea of planting them straight into soil, Dont know why?
No worries about the light, Like you say I'm sure some one will help me out on that one.

GREENBEHEMOTH - Yeah I've read some bad things about miracle grow, Not good at all! Would it be a good idea to buy a perlite and soil mixture? If so can you get them with nutes already added?
Yeah i'm going to get a small (6") clip on desk fan to put inside and I'll also have a 12v computer fan for the outtake.

I just hope it all goes to plan
