Question About Homemade CO2 jug in the Grow Room.

Hey all!

I have a question. We made our own CO2 jug with an empty gallon jug, sugar, active yeast, & distilled water. We have it sitting in the middle of our 3 buckets, hence it's under the cfl's with the plants... Is this a bad thing having it under the lights?? Should we place it just outside the room not under the lights or are we cool? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

:peace: :joint:

Oh just an important sidenote... The temps stay between 80 and 90 degrees daily in there.

lights don't matter, but co2 is heavier than oxygen so it falls down. Ideally you should have the co2 "falling" on the plants from above.

Oh I see... Good point, thanks! I have another question now. We have a shelf that is above them. It's actually right above them. If I place the jug up there will the CO2 just fall down onto the shelf? Or will it actually reach below and get to them? I would say the shelf is about 4ft above our tallest plant. If you get a chance let me know what you think about that or any suggestions on where to place the jug.

I think that would work well for you...

Co2 is a gas, so it wont just fall onto the shelf and sit there, it will dilute into the air and hit the plants much in a way a water fall effect would cause.

Sweet! Thanks! I wasn't aware of that. I put it up on the shelf a few hours ago so we are just going to go ahead and leave it there! Thanks for the info. I understand the CO2 process alot better now. I know what CO2 does, but I didn't know the best way to get it to the girls.

I have an additional question for you guys... I have big box fan blowing on the girls. The jug with the CO2 is about 4 feet above them on a shelf... I know now that CO2 is heavier than oxygen and it will naturally fall down on them like a waterfall. So does this apply to the fan as well? It's on the 2nd setting... blowing pretty good. Will the CO2 still fall thru the blowing fan air as well and hit the plants? Or should we shut the fan off for a bit whenever we shake up the jug so the CO2 doesn't blow around? I'm thinking that since it is heavier than air the fan won't bother it either but I just want to make sure.
Please let us know! THANKS!

In Co2 tank setups you generally turn off all ventialtion for x number of hours a day.

The fan is screwing up the use of CO2, I would turn it off for an hour and let the co2 really get the plants good, then turn it back on.

You could even put a timer on the fan.
