ok, so i dont have enough space to grow all my seedlings into flower to learn what sex they are because i plan to veg for a while, 8 weeks or so...and i've heard of people switching to 12/12 for a few days to get the sex of the plant and putting it back into 24/0 to continue veg. i was wondering...could u put the seedlings right into 12/12 to get the sex right away and then go into 24/0 once u know? i just thought that might be less stressful than going from veg to flower and back to veg...any thoughts would be great!

yes, you can..... but anytime you fuck with the light schedule like that, you run the risk of turning the plants hermie. I would just do fewer seedlings, then when you find out the males, pull them, and take clones from your females. you CAN take clones from a flowering plant, it's just a little harder to get them to root. the sooner you realize it's a female and clone it, the better.

2 month veg w/space issues seems contradictory to your intention. From reading thru RIU and other forums, it seems many are only vegging 2 weeks or so, making up for size thru number of plants.

well...i plan on keeping about 4 good females and im going to do lst...so that they dont grow too tall...but i dont have enough room to put too many plants into flower...and i also dont want to spend all the time and effort vegging for 8 weeks and training them only to find a bunch of males...so i was thinking this might work...and i figured it might be less stress to flower right away to sex them...then go to veg and do a normal cycle from there...i guess i'll give it a shot and pray to the ganja gods that they dont go hermie on me! but thanks for your help everyone!

While 12/12 for sex then returning to veg can be done, the weeks you'll wait for normal growth to return will nullify the benefits of knowing the results before vegging. I mean, you'll spend maybe 2 weeks sexing, then it can take 2-4 weeks for the process to reverse itself. You could do 3 weeks vegging and be 3 weeks into 12/12 in the same time frame.
Obviously, it's totally your call. A healthy 3 week vegged plant can be damn productive. Remember, plants generally double or triple in size during the initial 12/12 stretch . . . so an 8" 3-wk old plant does get decent sized and can produce an oz. or more, or less.

well, im not too worried about it taking a long time, im not in any real hurry to harvest, im pretty patient, so a few extra weeks isnt too bad...
