I am brand spanking new to growing and I just need to know what's an average amount of money that one should expect to spend for the initial set up and then whats the reoccurring cost (including what the light bills you guys have experienced)... Any info is greatly appreciated:leaf:

sooo many variables.....you start out with fitting the room. (hopefully this shouldn't cost you more than fifty bucks) Then the lights ( no way to estimate unless you tell us how many plants you want to grow. Nutrients aren't that expensive......I'd suggest figuring out the essentials first ( lighting air filters fans ) decide what you need and just shop around. I'm growing 4 plants and the whole shabang only cost me around $200 But thats with ALOT of DIY and many hours of shopping. If you could tell us what you want to accomplish you might get more help.

We spent around fifty dollars for the outdoor grow going down this summer. And on the other hand, my good buddy who grew indoors spent 1600 for his first grow. That gear will last you a very long time though. You'll make the money back in no time. There's no way in hell I could have afforded it. Had to wait for the summer.

$300-$400 easy. 400 watt light $200, fans $50, ducting and miss. $50, nuts and soil and such $100. I have about $2,500 rapped up into my room and it is not all that big.

First off, thanks for the help fellas... Now I can answer your question about what I'm looking todo PolyploidyPrince better if you answe this for me, you say you are growing 4 @ a time... what will that yield you probably, reason I ask is because I do know ultimately what I'd like to do I saw a guys who boasted because of the system he has in place he's yielding about a pound every 2 weeks how nice (now again I'm sure there are dudes who over blow what they can do just like in any other walk of life but if it can be done I'd love to get there) but for now I just want to do it and do it successfully but I don't want to be unrealistic which is why I asked what you're doing will yield you.

I think your boy is lying to you. Yielding a pound every two weeks? Really? Does he have separate grow set ups going on around the house to manage all of the lighting changes that have to go on to get the plants to grow properly? I don't know. Seems a little fishy to me. There's a huge margin for the amount you can yield off of plants, depending on the grower and the method used. With outdoor grows, I've read that people have yielded as little as a half ounce and as much as a few pounds. Indoor grows are probably towards the lower end.

I'm just guessing here but last harvest i got around 3 oz per plant....this one is gonna be a little better maybe 4-5 oz.....
And if your buddy is telling the truth hes most likely got 3 separate areas (clone, veg, flower) and a HELL of alot of plants.
I keep my setup simple....when I get my camera fixed I can post some pics.....but its just a 2 1/2 ft * X 3 ft x 6 ft closet. I just got a MH light and ballast from a buddy (400w I think) and a HPS (400w) for flowering. 90 cfm fan venting into a carbon coal filter in the attic. And an intake fan sucking air from under the house (cooler air).

Hmmmm all this sounds really spendy for my taste. 16 CFL's, 8 for grow and 8 for flower $60, soil $30, nutes $45, fan $4. My biggest cost is water just because I get bottled stuff for my babes. But then again my grow is indoor and it's only 4 ladies so it's a small scale grow.

I tried CFL's but ended up with fluffy bud.....They are ok for veg. But you need alot of em, and in the end its better to just buy a real light. (More lumens per watt)
