Smile humidity and attics question

I have a question and yes im a noob .........I have a small closet with attic access hole in to ceiling (its a house) my plan was too vent exhaust right into attic for small grow 4-10 plants but I heard a nightmare story about a guy that did that and the humidity built up in his attic next thing it was raining in his living room and caused all kinds of damage.....This seems like a "story" to me and i forgot were i read it not on this site.
Any how is that true I have those heat release spinning things on my roof so it would vent out there but I would hate to cause alot of damage as I plan on being here a while.....
for the fresh air intake i just put a vent on the door like a water heater closet has and will build a light trap on the inside

ps.........the fan im using is just a standard box fan like you see for 12 dollars up in the attic drawing air upwards at least that was gonna be the plan......would that create enough air movement?

so in short 2 questions
#1 will i mold out my attic or cause waterdamage that could cause ceiling problems
#2 is that fan enough
#3 will venting out top of roof be enough to keep odors down I have neighbors
thanks for your help

You can buy a roof-kit for the exhaust fan and vent out of the house. Eventually the moister will destroy the attic insulation in most cases, unless you vent through the roof.

just wanted to clarify and sorry for writing on my own question.......but it will be a flowering room only so should be a little lower humidity than vegn.... does that make a differnce? 400 watt hps is the light
this would seem such a simple way for a small grow but again i dont want to ruin house

Unless you live in a very dry climate, like Arizona, exhausts fans need a roof kit to vent the moisture from the attic.

you might be able to run the exhaust hose RIGHT to the overhang ventilation, instead of just into the open attic. maybe this is just my house that has these...idk. the overhangs have little holes in them (for circulation i believe) you might be able to shove the hose end ontop of them

Grow mushrooms...If you vent humidity into attic you'll get 1) mold..2) wood root
3) frozen condensation (in winter) 4) possible stain in living room or where ever on the ceiling and 5) killed by parents ( if applicable )
