Limited space for/and first grow, advice please

First of all, hey everyone! Grow virgin here.

I've been considering a grow for almost 2 years now but never got past the research stage. My 'supply' line has just dried up and the only option me and my brother have left is paying extortionate prices from people who don't know what they're selling, resulting in us not knowing what we're smoking, which is not a situation we want to be in. This leads me to my plea for help.

Limited space (Indoors) - I have an absolute maximum area of 5' width, 6' height and 4' depth in which to build a tent/structure. I have no access to an attic or spare room for ventilation, so would need to make something up using a window.

With so many conflicting sources of information and every grower having their own personal opinion, i've decided to ask here instead. These are my questions;

Do I have enough room for a large enough crop to support both myself and my brother?
Is there any particular technique (soil, hydro ect) that's best suited to my situation?
Can I combat a high monthly electricity bill somehow? (More efficient bulbs ect, my work/income fluctuates so start up costs can be managed but upkeep may be a small issue depending on amount of lights)

Any information/advice is greatly appreciated and I apologise for the essay.

1) yes. unless you smoke a ton
2) start with soil
3) LED if you can afford the cost

Where will the tent be? If inside a larger room, just vent in and out of it and get a carbon filter for smell.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

I smoke daily but not loads, my brother every 2-3 days. Could you elaborate on why soil would be best? Although I asked questions to get answers, i'd also like to learn. I use LED lights for my housing general lights for the low upkeep I figured it would be the same but have read a lot more into other lighting for growing, i'll search some articles on LED.

I plan to build a tent inside my bedroom but never thought of pumping in and out of the room itself, thanks! Thanks for the goodluck too, i'm sure i'll need it and optimism is normally my thing, i'm not expecting miracles here. When everything is good to go i'll do a grow journal.

A 2x4x5' tent would fit perfectly in that space, with enough room on one side for a 6" duct line.

It doesn't sound like you have a separate space for veg, so I'd go with three plants to start (in soil for the first time), letting them veg for about 4-5 weeks under a bunch of 6500k CFLs, or as GrowinDad said, an LED... my 135w Blackstar UFO works very well, under a 18/6 light cycle. When you go to flower, I'd run a 400w HPS to maximize yeild for the three plants. On a 12/12 cycle, my 400w costs me ~$40/month.

On my first grow with the exact description I gave above, in the exact setup, I yielded just a hair under a 1/2 pound dry, and my plants were stressed heavily. Vegging that long in a short 5' tent may require some heavy LST depending on strain, but it is very doable.

Happy growing!!

Thankyou spek9. Yes i'm really limited on space and wasn't even sure if it would be possible to grow in such a small area. I see your first indoor grow journal and i'm reading through that at the moment. What's a 'bunch' of for the 6500k's, 4? 6?

The 135w Blackstar UFO is within my price range, with energy costs as low as you say (i'll call my company tomorrow for some figures, so I can do the math for my area) the 400w HPS should be no issue either.

That's a pretty nice yield, half a lb would keep me and my brother going for quite a while! I'm happy to make my tent myself, and the only dimension I have room to play with is height, I could make the outer structure up to 6' 10'', allowing a bigger tent inside.

Again, thankyou very much, it's appreciated.
