Do a search you'll find it i'm sure...and it's common science knowledge that you cannot add lumens together...what ever the max lumen output is for a bulb is the max you will see.

It's true you cant add lumens together.

It's also true that lumens is only a measure of light visible to the human eye. It's something we made up kind of like time. Has no bearing to plant growth. (ok the factors that make higher luminosity will make better light for the plants but..do i make sense? haha)

But then is 50k lumen off 1 light going to be more effective for growing then 5 10k lumen lights, which is in turn better then 10 5k lumen lights, and so on?

A 50k light is better but not because of the lumens specifically. It's because of the intensity of the radiation. This will in turn give more lumens though... It's confusing to try and explain

I guess if you dont wanna think about it too hard you could just generalize it and say more lumens = better light

That's good to know, I always assumed that to 5k lumen lights was the same as one 50k lumen light. I never really understood why you would want like a 150w CFL when you could just get like 6 25w ones instead and most everything would be equal. It will make me feel better about buying an HPS here soon.
