Hi I'm new here and new to growing but have a lot of reading on this site.
I have about 30 bag seeds from friends and my own use from a couple of months of collecting. I started to germ them by moistening 2 paper towels
and putting the seeds in between and then in a ziploc bag. I did this Thursday
and I see 4 or 5 seeds cracked and I see a little white but it is not enough for
a root. I just put them in a cup of water to make sure they are all saturated and they all sank so I guess these seeds are still germing right? I want to know what I should change to get these started. I am keeping these in near my receiver to keep them warm and keeping it on all night.

uhh, i just say wait on it, keep it in the ziplock bag for a little longer in a dark warm place and you should get results. And make sure you have enough water in the paper towels.

DO NOT saturate cracked seeds in a cup of water! They will become water-bound and will likely not grow. You do not need to use a cup of water, but if you do- do it before you put the seeds inbetween the paper towels and do not let them sit in the water for more than 24 hours. Once they are in the paper towels they can take a 1-7 days to germinate. If you are using soil as your grow medium I would recommend to wait until the little white tap root is at least 1 inch long before planting. Moistened seeds (no matter what method of germination used) need only some warmth and pure darkness to do their thing

So I guess Im doing the right thing and I should just wait. Should
I change the paper towels and rewet daily?

They don't need to be changed daily. They should just be constantly moist (not soaking wet). For me, that means checking 4 times a day, and adding drops of water as needed (not like pouring it on).

Technically you may have killed them by putting cracked seeds in a cup of water...but probably not if it wasn't for too long. Just be patient. I think putting them in the cup of water for 12 hours at the beginning makes them germinate much quicker.

i just started germing a few seeds of my own on saturday morning in a few papper towels in a ziploc baggy with a towel on top to keep them warm and dark..

Let me know how that goes. I friend just gave me 14 or so seeds of
northern lights, silver haze and some middies. I will germ them now and
see how they go. Should be nice.

well it just checked on them and a few of them have sprouted a little root and most have cracked, one of them got a root of a bout a centimeter... my seeds are summertime budda... got them from a seed bank on toronto420.com.

I have found that by first germinating in a cup of water that the time needed to form sprouts is greatly reduced. I did a litttle test on my last 8 seeds where 4 of them were saturated for 24 hours and the other 4 for 12 hours. I found no measurable difference in growth rate between them through the seedling stage (but all 8 sprouted in less than 48 hours)
